He ain't joking either. When I first met him I had to get on a box just to shake hands w/ him. He said he used to work under cover when in LE. +1 for what spud said. His gear looks good & many use it. I have a tapered belt, different brand. I am 56 & just a little tummy. Setting long at a computer w/ my old untapered belt began to pinch at the buckle. I really like the taper for desk work days.
If I was younger & the job was not a desk, I would not spend the difference in price. The tapper does not weaken the belt strength, quality, or efficency. It does make a dressier belt. Slim like you say, don't spend the money on the stiffner. I have heard many say that it is way too stiff & especially going in a tight circle around a slim waste.
My 2cents & some think it worth about half that.
