The EMPs are what Springfield calls "short-action" 1911, designed for the shorter 9mm and .40 cal rounds. The grip size is about 1/8 inch small than a .45ACP 1911. The .40 has a steel frame and is 7 ounces heavier (empty) than the alloy framed 9mm. Suspect the slight additional weight helps the .40 cal known to have a snappy recoil.OrangeAnimal wrote:I guess the distance front to back is somewhat thinner. Didn't think of that. I would also assume that the aluminum vs. the steel frame on the forty makes it.somewhat lighter. Now I just wonder the the distance from the front to the backstrap is different on the forty as well cause it really doesn't seem different from the 45. Although its been awhile since I had a 45 caliber 1911 in my hands.

My bride of 44 years has the EMP in 9mm... a real nice pistol for someone with smaller hands.OrangeAnimal wrote:Can't help but notice how much the kimber looks like my Springfield. Only difference between them would be the caliber.
