Looks like the shield is the weapon of choice follwed by xd model. Thanks for your input.striker55 wrote:I have a S&W shield 45 and it shoots great, even the small size the recoil isn't bad at all.

Re: Compact 45 for concealment
I was really impressed with xd. I never fired anything that small in a 45. I thought it would be hard to hit the target but it seemed easier.E.Marquez wrote:My EDC is a XDM 3.8 in .45 or an XD custom in .45 concealed though not "secrete" carry. I actually shot his weapon better than my own guns. Just wondering is their anyone out there that carry's a 45 compact or one that can be concealed that is not a glock or 1911. I love my CZ's I just wish they made a 45 in the concealment range. Just looking for some other options and it's always better to have more like GEICO.

Very nice looking. Not a bad price either.1911 Raptor wrote:I carry a 1911 Kimber Ultra Raptor II and it is a sweet concealable firearm. I was completely surprised at how accurate this pistol was for the size of the gun. It comes with night sights already installed.

Checked out range online. Will definitely be coming over your way. Ill let you know maybe we can meet up destroy some targets.longhorn86 wrote:It is a very nice indoor range, comparable to Nardis, membership not necessary to shoot, non-members can pay $ 20.00/hrAllons wrote:Yeah that would be great. If you ever find yourself on NE side, I am member at McQueeney Gun Club. I would be happy to let you try my Shield 45, if you can't find one elsewhere to try.

Re: Compact 45 for concealment
Yeah I think the shield and xd series will be the first ones I test. Followed by some 1911's and glock 30Soccerdad1995 wrote:+1 on the Shield. I had both the 9mm and .45 versions, and I honestly could not tell much difference at all in recoil between them.
I had the Colt Defender but sold it in favor of a CCO model 1911. To me, it conceals every bit as well as an Officers model like the Defender, since the concealment challenge for me relates to grip length. But the extra inch + in barrel length was very impactful on my accuracy. I would recommend a CCO or even a Commander model with a bobtailed frame over an Officer's model.

Yeah me too. That would be my first choice without firing.MechAg94 wrote:HK has a couple of newer 45 options. The HK 45 is kind of big for only having a 10 round mag capacity, but they have a compact that looked interesting.
I was hoping CZ would put out a CZ 97 Phantom. I would buy that in a heartbeat.

Thanks for your input. Colt defender is within the price range that I'm looking at.thatguyoverthere wrote:The STI Escort is pretty much identical to the Colt Defender. I had the Escort first, and that's one of the reasons I decided on buying the Colt later, because it was identical to my other carry gun (I'm pretty paranoid about consistency in my carry guns!).Allons wrote:I've never heard of the STI Escort know about STI though. For actually carrying, I switch out between my officer-size 1911 Colt Defender and STI Escort. Shooting either of those takes me to a happy place, too.
Yep, the STI was way more than I had ever spent on any gun before, but I decided at the time that I deserved (wanted ) the very best of something!
The Colt is a fine gun. But the Escort is just somehow "smoother" operating. I'm happy with both.
Good luck on your decision!

Thanks will add that to the list. Just talk to a friend that has one of those he doesn't even use says its a good pistol and will let me borrow next week when I go to the range.Hack Job wrote:If considering Glocks, check out the G36. With a Pierce grip it's got 7+1 capacity and is still concealeable. Shares some holsters with G19 as they're almost identical in size.

I thought the short barrel 1911 were hard to control (at least that's what I've always heard) that's why I never gave them much thought. Maybe I will give it a go. I think my range has that one in the try before you buy group. Thanks

Re: Compact 45 for concealment
Thanks will add that one to the list of try before I buy if they have it.Bruin98 wrote:I carry the xds45.
Light weight. Bullet goes where I aim. 6 in the gun, 7 in the backup mag and I don't feel outgunned.
Cons
1. The grip is very aggressive. Not for sensitive hands.
2. My, and a lot of other owners on their forum, 7 round mags took awhile to break in. It would basically misfeed a round every time i used it. I trust it now but I was worried for awhile. I think if you know that going in, it is easier to be patient. It probably took 2-300 rounds to break in. I've shot thousands through it and don't remember any incidents in a long time.
