Re: CA: the mean streets of Los Angeles
The building surveillance video that's surfaced isn't of sterling quality, and Fox News aired a different one yesterday from a similar angle. But following the lane change, the 22-year-old SUV driver made no adjustments to his speed and no efforts to change what was a direct-intercept path to the runners. If the light pole hadn't stopped him, he would have hit even more people. I believe we stand at 25 injured, 5 critically, and at least one had to have a leg amputated. The Annoyed Man wrote: ↑Fri Nov 18, 2022 9:17 am The driver passed a field breathalyzer test. He may have been impaired by some other substance than alcohol. But impaired or not, according to witnesses who observed him coming down the wrong side of the street and then seemingly deliberately swerving into the runners, it looked deliberate.

Re: CA: the mean streets of Los Angeles
Saw this earlier. Got home and checked for a story:
More than 20 police recruits injured after driver plows into group on morning run
https://www.foxnews.com/us/more-than-20 ... orning-run
More than 20 hit! It occurred at about 06:30 in California...which doesn't rule out a heavily impaired driver, but it can't be easy to hit that many people unintentionally. I'll sit on any conspiracy theories until more info comes in, but offering prayers for the injured.More than 20 law enforcement recruits have been injured, at least five critically, after a driver plowed into them while out on a morning run in California on Wednesday. The recruits have been rushed to hospitals, and authorities have detained a suspect believed to be the driver of the vehicle...
Authorities have yet to release further details on the incident. Residents of the area told Fox 11 that police recruits at the STARS academy often run in groups while wearing high-visibility vests in the area.

What's suddenly in the air in Southern California?!

Actress Anne Heche critically injured after crashing car into CA home, igniting fire
https://abc13.com/anne-heche-crash-mar- ... /12103036/
The driver was traveling at a high rate of speed when she ran off the road and collided with a residence, Los Angeles Police Public Information Officer Jeff Lee tells CNN. The impact left the car engulfed in flames and the driver suffered burn injuries. She was taken to a local hospital by Los Angeles Fire Department paramedics in critical condition. It took firefighters more than an hour to "access, confine and fully extinguish the stubborn flames within the heavily damaged structure," the LAFD said.
There were no other injuries reported.
CNN has contacted representatives of Heche for comment.

Yep. Seems she's a 37-year-old from Houston but living in L.A. and working as a nurse. She was arrested and "hospitalized with moderate injuries and faces a charge of vehicular manslaughter with gross negligence."
The pregnant victim was 23-year-old Asherey Ryan, and her 11-month-old son was also killed.
Five dead, eight hospitalized.

Re: CA: the mean streets of Los Angeles
Fox News reported a short while ago that the driver was a woman in her 40s, in a black Mercedes going approximately 100mph. Three of the victims were a child and a pregnant woman and her fetus. The driver evidently was not one of the ones killed.BigGuy wrote: ↑Fri Aug 05, 2022 12:36 pm So many questions. How fast was he going and why? It doesn't look like he even tried to slow down. Seems intentional. If I'd seen it in a movie, I'd be rolling my eyes at the typical Hollywood, over the top fiery explosion. One or more gas tanks must have been torn open and ignited.
