Re: Another Meme Thread
When we get to the point that we start needing to use a walker when just a cane will longer do, I vote that becomes the de facto Texas Walker. An homage to Chuck Norris and a force-multiplier for senior citizens everywhere.
But seriously, The Annoyed Man got me reading Kurt Schlichter's new novel, The Attack, and its premise and extrapolations are fresh from the news (the October 7th attack by Hamas on Israel was the basis for his imagining of the book), and frighteningly realistic in the possibilities. Especially considering U.S. Customs and Border Protection just released numbers showing that we've hit 1 million known undocumented border crossings since October 1, 2023; the fastest we've ever reached that number in history. You'll have to read the book to understand why that fits into the premise (Amazon Kindle edition $6.99 or free with Kindle Unlimited; $16.24 for the paperback: https://www.amazon.com/Attack-Kurt-Schl ... 0CR1N7R8T/. It's the #1 new release at Amazon in Political Thrillers & Suspense, and I admit I'm a tad bit surprised that Amazon doesn't seem to have tried to suppress its sales. It is definitely not politically correct in the current clime.
And it has me rethinking the possible need to mount a strong, locking box for a long gun in the SUV. Thanks a lot, TAM.

Re: Another Meme Thread
I made this one last year, and when I showed it to a non-gun friend the comment was that it seemed sacrilegious. I had to point out that Santa Claus was not a religious figure and made no appearance in the Bible. He's a combination of some pre-Christian paganism, some modern myth-making, and--by name association only--of a nickname for a 3rd-century saint (it's a Dutch nickname, Sinter Klaas, short for Saint Nicholas, a bishop of Myra--town in ancient Greece and later in Turkish territory--around 280 AD). Today's popular image of Santa Claus didn't appear until the 1800s.
But in 1800, the world's population was just hitting 1 billion. Today it's nudging 8.1 billion. Santa's annual job has gotten much, much tougher...

Re: Another Meme Thread
Well, looking back at the results of the 2022 Annenberg Public Policy Center's annual Civics Knowledge Survey is one glimpse of our education system. Only 47% of U.S. adults could name all three branches of government; 25% could not name any one of the three branches; 11% could name one of the three correctly. When asked to name the five rights protected under the First Amendment, 26% could not name one. Freedom of religion was named by only 24%, and 30% were able to name freedom of the press.srothstein wrote: ↑Sat Jul 01, 2023 10:27 amThis needing an explanation is a very sad commentary on our education system, at least when it deals with history.Excaliber wrote: ↑Sat Jul 01, 2023 8:29 am If you're still mystified by the sign, here's the explanation.
I'm off-topic for the meme thread, but...yeah. I have low confidence in the state of our education system. The National Assessment of Educational Progress (NAEP), dubbed "the nation's report card," latest numbers from late last year showed that scores for the average 13-year-old dropped a whopping 14 points in math compared to just a decade ago, and reading scores dropped 7 points. From what I can tell, we're at an all-time low for those scores in math, reading, and civics.
I keep having flashbacks to the movie Idiocracy.

Re: Another Meme Thread
Former mayor of Chicago Lori Lightfoot and Vice President Kamala Harris found their recent Chicagoland excursion exciting in one of Ms. Harris's favorite forms of transportation, the yellow school bus. Said the vice president, "It seemed we were greeted with fireworks almost everywhere we went. The Chicagoans' welcoming greetings were warm and active. Chicago is everywhere an active city."

Not your fault. That website uses Cloudflare for content propagation and access control, so it isn't accepting the forum's host server for inbound requests without one of those "confirm you're human" checkbox things. I wonder if those stats hold true from the last FBI annual crime report. I'm too lazy to go look, though, so I'll take it at face value.Chemist45 wrote: ↑Tue Apr 11, 2023 4:45 pm Sorry the link didn't work. Here is the wording without the pretty picture:
The United States is 3rd in murders throughout the world.
However, if you remove Chicago, Detroit, Washington DC, St. Louis and New Orleans, the United States is then 189th out of 193 countries in the whole world.
PS: All 5 cities have strict gun control laws.
Had a conversation this morning with someone about U.S. "gun violence" and told them I was of the opinion that 90% of all gun crimes could be traced back to gang activity or a precursor crime like drugs or robbery. The media and left-leaning politicians have everybody believing it's all attributable to mass shootings and right-wing extremists.

Re: Another Meme Thread
Considering this is pretty much the blanket response to any moderately tough questions, I think it applies to the gun agenda, too:
