Let's not forget that the dems can stack the supreme court if they win.
This event cannot have happened at a worse time politically. I am still unswayed with taking the high road, though. It is seemingly the best political move as well as the more scrupulous route. It seems like it's not going to happen, though, based on the words of McConnell and Trump. I hope this won't turn ugly come November.

Re: Ruth Bader Ginsberg - dies 9.18.2020
After reading all of your responses, I totally understand the sentiment. I would love to play offense and smack down the liberals once and for all. It may seem very tempting, but it's the wrong choice to make in my opinion. Getting someone appointed to the vacant seat between now and the election is a virtual impossibility. By trying, we'll only be fueling the other side, which will be out in force at the polls and making this election cycle much harder than it was 24 hours ago. By downplaying this and letting things happen in due time, the other side won't get as fired up for the election. It's that simple. It'll also make the right look better with more high road action. Trust me. People are noticing these things.
At the same time, I ask that someone please prove me wrong with the timeline thing. I would love nothing but to have an additional appointment for a good justice in the supreme court.

I get it, but I am with srothstein with taking the high road on this. Even having the hearing take place before the election is 100% hypocrisy. The dems remember, and it will ultimately hurt the rhino vote come November if McConnell goes full steam ahead with what he just said. Even though the dems may be playing the devil's game, we must not sink so low. Besides, getting a nomination, hearing, and vote will be impossible to accomplish before November 3rd. We may as well wait until Trump gets reelected first.flechero wrote: ↑Fri Sep 18, 2020 8:31 pmI would have agreed with you if the Dems had treated President Trump with any respect that the office deserves.... after what I have seen the last 3.5 years, I'd be all for stickin' it to them and jamming this one home. Especially considering that there are going to be some 2A cases coming up in the next few years and all the partisan maneuvering getting ready to take place.srothstein wrote: ↑Fri Sep 18, 2020 8:24 pm I have a problem with the hypocrisy that would be shown if they do make a nomination now. The Republicans held up a nomination for quite a long time because an election was close and they wanted to let the new president have a say (well, that was their stated reason). If they do a nomination this close, they would be showing that they were lying about it (which we all knew anyway).
