Re: 147th Annual NRA Meeting in Dallas
Yes, we know that the arena is definitely off limits, and I would *assume* that the rest of the area is OK. Again, it's an assumption. I've learned many times in the past, don't assume anything. There was confusion in the air, and the NRA did NOT do anything to clear it up. That only caused negative publicity to go their way, as if recent events haven't already done enough damage.cyphertext wrote:The Secret Service notice specifically states the "Arena"... think about it, if it was going to include the exhibit halls, then the vendors would have to clear out as well. Can't have any of those off limit items in the area, and that would include any being sold by vendors.strogg wrote:Sheesh this turned crazy. I'm not going to fuel any fires here by airing my sentiment and opinion on the matter, but I will say this: If the NRA knows what the firearms policy is for Friday, they absolutely need to let everyone know. If they don't know it because the Secret Service is being all stupid about it (I wouldn't be surprised), they need to let everyone know THAT. Either way, the NRA being mum on the issue is making them look very bad, and it's only going to make the anti-NRA case stronger on both sides of the aisle.

Re: 147th Annual NRA Meeting in Dallas
I suggest that if the NRA really want to stick it to Dallas, they can move the convention to Fort Worth. Nothing like moving a huge moneymaker next door to a competing city. And everyone who has booked flights can still fly into DFW.

Re: 147th Annual NRA Meeting in Dallas
That's a great idea. I suggest we have a designated spot and time for all three days. That way we can accommodate people's varying schedules throughout the weekend. So something like meet up at this tbd spot by 9:15AM on all three days. Once the group feels like everyone who will show up has shown up, they'll start walking around and perusing.bblhd672 wrote:We should have a pre-arranged meetup location at the NRA show for all the forum members who attend to get together.
I am planning on going Friday morning myself to avoid the weekend crowd, although something tells me it'll be packed senseless regardless of which day I go anyway.

Re: 147th Annual NRA Meeting in Dallas
I honestly don't know for certain about the insurance thing. More speculation, but from what I've been reading around the interwebs, most likely fact than fiction. I haven't found any concrete evidence pointing one way or the other, though. Upon rereading my post, I realize that I didn't actually say what I intended to say. My apologies. Let me rephrase the point I was trying to make: insurance companies may want event organizers and venues to do their best in making sure no negligent discharges occur at a gun show that the insurance payor is covering. That best effort may certainly involve a no-loaded-firearms policy at the event. Lifting that requirement may end up costing the organizers and/or the venue more money than they can spend, which is why many gun shows have the no-loaded-firearms policy. You can thank the idiots who NDed in gun shows nationwide for that.rotor wrote: Do you know for a certainty that insurance companies are doing that? Have you seen an insurance policy that says that only people with LTC can not carry at a gun show? Will the insurance company cover if someone illegally (not a LTC holder) carries and there is a ND?
In the case of the NRAAM, I'd be surprised if there there is a no-carry policy. Since this is more of a convention than it is a gun show, and with the deep pockets the NRA has, I would expect that they continue with the tradition of fully honoring 2A rights this year.

Re: 147th Annual NRA Meeting in Dallas
I hope so, but who knows. It's like those 30.06/30.07 signs at gun shows. It's not necessarily the property owners or the event organizers that want to put those signs up, but the insurance companies that refuse to cover the liability if someone gets hurt from a ND and force the organizers to put up those signs.n5wd wrote:In the past, the NRA Convention has followed local laws. When the convention was in Houston in years past, people carried lawfully. Don't imagine it will change, now.rotor wrote:Is it going to be posted 30.06/07? There is no listing of firearm policy. Page says please check back.
Regardless, I can't wait to go. It'll be a blast. I'm glad I'm local and can just drive there.
