Re: First Baptist Euless

A number of people assume that ALL military has firearms training. I was in the USAF for 24 years and the truth of the matter is you get to fire an M16 in basic training (usually with a .22 conversion kit) and that is about it unless you are in a career field that requires additional firearms training (law enforcement, pararescue, etc).
If you are lucky and get stationed overseas, you will need to qualify again before going overseas. Most USAF folks shoot an M16 in basic training and that is the extent of their firearms education.
Even those folks who are in firearms related career field may not get that much training. We had a "Gun Club" in Germany composed of all services and DOD civilians. We would have matches against German military teams and on occasion our own USA special forces. Usually what we did was go to the range as a club and qualify on the upcoming course of fire. Whomever were the top four shooters would represent the club at the next competition.
One day we had an event and a number of club members showed up to qualify. One guy was a USA Military Policeman who brought his issued sidearm. The course of fire was slow fire bullseye at 25 meters. Out of a possible score of 50, this guy got a 2!!! Not only that, but he shot the legs out of one of our targets and we had to get a new target stand to finish!!!
As I said, many inaccurate assumptions about military firearms training out there...
