Actually it's 18 years old because an 18 year old can apply for a Maine permit which they issue at 18 up there. Maine permit not good in most states though but works for Missouri as does any permit.

Also the revised article 1, section 23 of the MO constitution IMO also gives these players protection as well, especially being a state school.

I wouldn't be so sure on an override. While if it makes it to the house it will be override, BUT the senate only needs to flip two votes. Remember what happened in the senate in 2013? I hear Bloomberg is putting most of their efforts on the senate because if he stops it, it will have to be in the senate. Ryan Silvery, republican senator out of Kansas City commented about Bloomberg recently and how demanding mom's did a poll in his district that claimed 85 percent against constitutional carry, and if he would change his vote. He said he will not change his vote because he doesn't believe the Bloomberg poll because he is getting bombarded with support for the bill about 2-1 he says. Heavy pressure needs to be put on the senators now. If this doesn't pass, hopefully next year when passed Chris Koster will stand by his claims and sign the bill.
Well, I was only talking about a resident CCW, not non-resident. They can open carry at eighteen in most cities and in the rural areas without a permit, or carry in their vehicle anywhere.

And, yes, the coach doesn't have a legal leg to stand on because of article 1, section 23 http://www.moga.mo.gov/mostatutes/Const ... 10231.html

As for the override, will just have to see. It will be close for sure.

Re: Missouri Football Coach - No Handguns Ownership

One thing that I failed to mention was that the sports program imports players from all over the country. There is a significant drug issue around Columbia, and many of the 'imports' are around that. Lately in the city there have been numerous robberies in apartment complexes, especially around the ones that are higher end where students with money live, including many of the athlete's who are on scholarships and have money from home. So, like other schools, the coach made a knee-jerk decision to try and keep the athlete's from owning handguns. I am a little surprised since Odom is from Lawton, OK, but he may be one of those who grew up around hunting, but handguns (and maybe long guns) were not part of his life.

Re: Missouri Football Coach - No Handguns Ownership

Missouri is a very gun-friendly state overall. Lots of rural areas and hunting and shooting are a right of passage for many youth. Even the cities have major suburban areas that are predominantly rich with firearms owners.

Missouri allows 19 year olds to get their CCW. I taught a class back in the early spring and had a student who turned 19 three weeks earlier. Unlicensed open carry has always been legal unless prohibited by local ordinance. There is a bill pending override of the governors veto that will allow unlicensed concealed carry unless prohibited by local ordinance. Some question on if that will get override when the legislature reconvenes, but there is a good chance it will.

Our daughter graduated from Mizzou in May of 2015. It is a great school overall and is the oldest formal journalism school in the world. They also have a very large agriculture program and there is a large contingent of students that hunt and shoot. When we did Dad's weekend for my daughters sorority, one of the girls put together a sporting clay shoot. We had a blast (well, many blasts!). ;-)

The issues last year has hurt their enrollment, but it was more issues with overall administration not following through with complaints than anything else. The Mass Communication professor that made the news got bounced pretty quick. They will rebound and get their enrollment back on track.

M-I-Z!! :thumbs2:
