I'd say that was pretty good shooting myself.
Keith, i just read that and was about to post the same thing here! Thats some crack shootin'! Whoever that is should be teaching the other officers (unless of course it was some kind of amazing bit of luck).
To be honest, in a fire fight if you get a hit at all you are probably just lucky. However, if you can find a good barricade, feel well protected by it and can brace your weapon to steady it for the shot, then as Luke Skywalker would say 'It's just like targeting womp rats in Begger's Canyon' when the BG pops his head up like a ground hog.

Re: Breaking: Officer and Two Others Shot in Richardson

ddstuder, my condolences to the family. Very sad situation that some thug that is carrying illegally and isn't even supposed to legally have a gun would end someone's life over a free bus ride.

DART PD already has a lot of bad news they have to contend with. There have been at least three shootings within the last 6 months. DH is currently in the police academy and was going to apply for DART but on one of the police wives forums, one of the wives told me NOT to have him apply. DART is "TECHNICALLY" a licensed peace officers but don't do what licensed police officers do. When there is a shooting or something, they don't handle the investigation, they have the city it happened in do it. The one yesterday is being handled by Richardson, the one a couple weeks ago is being handled by Dallas. I work with a girl that her husband works for DPD and he laughed when we asked him about working for DART.

DART PD is a JOKE!!! The DPD officer said he has heard DART PD tell a lady that was getting beat up to call 911 even though DART was right there.
DPD has a lot of bad press, so that officer is the pot calling the kettle black. And I wouldn't trust what that DPD officer is telling you on 'hearing' anything. People make up stories, and it happens in police departments to. Dissing another department period IMO makes that officer the joke, not DART.

Certified peace officers are just that, certified. The amount of on and off job training that goes into their post academy assignments are what hones an officers skills. When your DH comes out of the academy he will be a green horn just like all the rest. What will make him a good officer, no matter what department he is with is his attitude on how he approaches the job and what he wants to make of it. If he approaches the job with that attitude he will be fine, but he has to remember no matter who they are, they are fellow officers and he will be darn happy to see them as backup in a crisis

As ddurkof stated, it is policy to allow other agencies to investigate any internal issue. A shooting in Plano might be investigated by DPS, Richardson, etc.

Now, for who shot who, the surviving gunshot victim says he was behind the BG and is sure it was the officer's gunfire that hit him. He also stated the victim that died was behind the officer, so the BG had to have shot him. First hand accounts are usually the best at telling what happened minus being able to see video from different angles etc. As for knowing what's behind your target, when the bullets start flying, all bets are off. Having been shot at (luckily only once) while I was a LEO, I can tell you whether they are hitting close to you or not, you want to find a hole to crawl into because you feel like a big giant target. And, would more practice have caused her to not miss? Maybe, maybe not. We know she had been hit with bullets, so we have no idea on what the impact did to her shoulder. Was it her strong side and she had limited use of her gun hand? Did she have her gun out before he pulled his and fired? We just don't know and won't know unless they release security video of the event.

Unless you have been in a gunfight, you can't say this. While I agree you don't take risky shots if you have the draw-down, when someone is shooting AT you, and in this case hitting you, you don't necessarily have time to precisely place shots.

Unless we know the position of all parties involved, shooting angles, etc etc, I would suggest we hold any speculation on whether the officer should or shouldn't have fired.

Re: Breaking: Officer and Two Others Shot in Richardson

UPDATE: Shooter has been identified as 27 year old Cory Lamar Jones. Per the article here http://www.nbcdfw.com/news/local/Bystan ... 47704.html" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false; it states:
In 2002, Jones (pictured left) pleaded guilty to assault causing bodily injury to a family member, a Class A misdemeanor. He was sent to jail for 45 days according to police records.

In 2005, Jones was arrested for assault on a public servant, he pleaded guilty to the third degree felony in a McKinney court. Public records show Jones paid $324 in court costs and was on probation for 3 years and 6 months.
With either conviciton, he would not be qualified for a CHL, so that covers if he was licensed or not.

This was Dwaine Caraway, who also said last night that we need a cop on every bus or train and TSA-style security to ensure no guns are taken on DART lines. Of course, he would probably give the thug a key to the city while punishing the law-abiding citizen.
Yeah, this is typical aftermath lip service by politicians. They will beat their chest and tell everyone what they think they want to hear, then quietly fade out of the picture once things cool down and everyone moves on to the next crisis.

Not sure that can happen for CHL's as DART is funded by member cities and sale tax levies. Would have to put something into the state statutes like Missouri has that says you can't ride a bus and carry. :banghead:

DART officials, meanwhile, defended the transit agency’s safety record despite this and other recent acts of violence.

Yeah, right. Besides - there's been no mention of whether the BG had a CHL or not. Methinks Mr. Ball speaks not of which he knows.
I do hope that is the case, and that the individual was not a CHL holder, but media relation folks for corporations usually have the inside track when their company is involved with police investigations.

Re: Breaking: Officer and Two Others Shot in Richardson

One of the bystanders that was struck died last night. Word is the DART officer did return fire. Sad situation, but I do hope that the bystanders were struck by the BG's bullets and not friendly fire. Prayers for the families of those injured and killed.

Re: Breaking: Officer and Two Others Shot in Richardson

Apparently a DART officer was shot in the shoulder, but the injury was not life threatening. Word now is the shooter ran into a nearby business and shot himself in the head. No word on his condition.

Breaking: Officer and Two Others Shot in Richardson

At the Arapaho DART rail station.

I heard a lot of sirens about 20 minutes ago, must have been where they were all headed.
