Re: Husband of TMS .50 victim launches gun control website

We were discussing this at dinner with some shooters and non-shooter (Obama supporter types.) It really boils down to why the bullet missed the backstop and traveled 5 miles. Terrain, trajectory, etc are all going to play into this. If it was a high shot on the backstop that missed, and the range is elevated from the motor speedway, then it could have just been a freak deal. The fact that it went into the middle of the raceway during a crowded time, then that it hit an individual 5 miles away is a REALLY freak alignment of the planets. 99% of the time there would be no one even around.

Kennith Jaramillo contacted Fort Worth police on Monday after hearing that Jill King Moss, 62, was hit in her arm by a .50-caliber bullet that pierced the roof of her RV, authorities said. Ms. Moss was taken to Harris Methodist Hospital and is expected to recover from her injuries. Given the bullet’s trajectory, Fort Worth police investigators believe the bullet came from a long distance away. Mr. Jaramillo told police he was target shooting five miles away from Texas Motor Speedway between 10 and 11 a.m, said Lt. Paul Henderson, a Fort Worth police spokesman. Mr. Jaramillo fired five or six rounds at a berm, a mound of dirt, with his .50-caliber Vulcan single shot rifle. Fort Worth police confiscated his weapon for ballistics tests. If tests confirm the bullet was fired from his weapon, Mr. Jaramillo could be charged with deadly conduct for recklessly firing a weapon, Lt. Henderson said. Mr. Jaramillo has not been arrested or charged in the incident.(Dallas Morning News)(11-5-2008) Comment here

Broke rule #4
Know your target and whats behind it

5 miles is a LONG way away...that had to be a high angle shot!

Still don't hold the rest of us culpable for someone elses failure to use their firearm properly
What I posted above says they have confirmed the bullet was fired from his gun. Now will be interesting to see how it is handled.

They have the individual and the gun used. He contacted the police earlier to let them know it might be him. Ballistic tests indicated it did come from his gun.

Tests show bullet from man's gun hit woman

Fort Worth police on Thursday confirmed that preliminary ballistics tests indicate a stray bullet that hit a woman at Texas Motor Speedway came from a rifle shot by a 49-year-old Benbrook man.

Fort Worth police are still investigating the case. No charges have been filed against Kennith Jaramillo, said Lt. Paul Henderson, a Fort Worth police spokesman.

Mr. Jaramillo came forward Monday after hearing that Jill King Moss, 62, was hit in her arm by a .50-caliber bullet that pierced the roof of her RV on Sunday, authorities said.

Ms. Moss was taken to Harris Methodist Fort Worth Hospital; she is expected to recover from her injuries.

Mr. Jaramillo told police he was target shooting five miles away from the speedway between 10 and 11 a.m. He fired five or six rounds at a mound of dirt with his .50-caliber single-shot rifle.

Lt. Henderson said Mr. Jaramillo could face charges in the case.

Re: Husband of TMS .50 victim launches gun control website

One of the tactics used by anti's on anything they are attacking is 'baiting'. Any way they get to you and entice you into calling names or telling them they are ignorant, ranting about their unrealistic view, etc. just helps fuel their fire. As Charles said, emails and printed letters can be used as ammo to try and help them support their views.

The best method is to send factual information in a business like method, sympathizing with their plight but stating your case in the hope of educating them, OR just let them go on their way and hope they will eventually fade away. Most times cool level headed reasoning, even though it may not seem to be working quickly, is the best solution over time.
