LOL, I can guarantee you can't 'casually' walk onto the ranch, especially when family is there. Remote sensors monitor the perimeter and you wouldn't make it in very far even if you tried.

When the family is at the Western White House (as he was this weekend,) they block the road leading to the main road onto the property. It is blocked off on the southwest and southeast ends where the road intersects the the other arteries. Only residents that live on the road (and maybe some family members) as well as press get past that checkpoint.

When he is not there you can drive along the road that passes the property, but not down the main road in, as that is where the security gate is. There are also signs stating no stopping on the road when you are on the outside perimeter of the ranch.

Secret Service Headquarters is located catty-cornered from the entrance to the main road into the property, and only down the road from the old schoolhouse about 1/8 of a mile.

I am sure if there had been too big an issue, the USSS folks would have been very quickly. There may have actually been one in the the schoolhouse with them, or at least someone from the White House Press Corp.

Re: Gun incident at Bush's ranch in Crawford

I am semi-familiar with that school house and the area across the street. The neighbors around the ranch have had to deal with the press on a ton of occasions.

When Cindy Sheehan had her issue going on out there it was a real zoo. The press felt they had the right to set up anywhere, with lights on their camera trucks and generators running at all hours of the night. The neighbors got feed up with it and their tolerance levels went way down.

Needless to say, you push them and they will push back, especially the media.
