If you keep a spare weapon in a safe, it will not be quickly accessible. Then are you going to take it out ever time you get in the car and stow it before you get out?
IMHO, if you drive more than a little, the best tactic is to carry in a holster that will allow you to deploy the weapon quickly.

Many of the post mounted hoslters that mount under the dash or beside the seat offer a good second method for easy deployment. Just move it from your on-body to the car holster, then back again b4 exiting the vehicle.
