That being said, I will always be grateful to the elderly couple that opened their door at 2 am one cold night for my 20 year old daughter after she ran her car into a ditch trying to avoid a stupid varmint. This was back in the days before cell phones, and those folks kept her warm and calm, then called me and the police. I don't want to think about what might have transpired had those people not taken her in.

If someone knocked on my door at 2 am these days, I don't know that I would offer the same hospitality and I am a bit conflicted over that.
