TAM,
Another thing we have in common.
"It was a very strange thing to hold, what had once been my dad, in my hands and drift it over the side of a boat."
In my case, from my kayak.
A bittersweet feeling...

Re: Cremation or Burial?
I had a Funeral Director advise me that the heat of cremation is so intense there's no ash, just bone salts left.
"Cremains" is just such a darn cutesy word, I'll never use it again.

Cremation or Burial?
Cremation for me.
Why?
For one thing, I don't want to take up any real estate. No headstone or plaque or plot necessary. A handsome savings.
No service or any of that sort of thing. More savings.
Plus, cremation is far, far less expensive for those you leave behind. Do you really want to strap your loved ones with a sudden enormous expense, perhaps in the thousands, even tens of thousands of dollars, for a fancy send off?
Last I checked and depending on which funeral home you use, cremation cost will range from $850.00 up to $1250.00. A bargain. That includes picking up your corpse, death certificate, delivery arrangements to the crematory and of course your own special barbecue of you... Yep, a turn key job. Oh yeah, if you want the "cremains" put into a fancy urn, that''ll cost a little extra, but really not much.
Plus, no gloomy parade of cars to the cemetery. Another cost savings. This particular custom always seems, to me anyway, kinda unnecessarily showy and just a little medieval...
No flowers necessary either. Ka-Ching! More cost savings!
Why am I on this subject?
In the past 2 months, 3 different funeral homes have been kind enough to remind me (by junk mail) of my impending doom, being ahem, well over 65. They see the hand writing on the wall and would like first crack at me when I shuffle off this mortal coil.
Darn vultures.
They'll find my corpse not as much a profit center as some others.
So, what's for you?
