Re: Texans Respond to License to Carry

mojo84,

Thanks.

I emailed him with my discoveries.

Actually, I found others in the article, like "Conceded Handgun License" instead of "Concealed" which the paper could very well have misprinted (I did mention that in the email to him, though I don't know how germane mentioning it is, other than to help clear up confusion as to what CHL stands for...) and a few other very minor errors, that I didn't bother to mention.

Re: Texans Respond to License to Carry

Dade Phelan wrote in "The Orange Leader" dated October 11, 2015 an article that seems to contain some errors.

Bullet Point: The same premises restrictions apply for open carry as they do for concealed carry. A permit holder may not carry a firearm: On the premises of a hospital or nursing home (unless licensee has written authorization) -

Not so, unless the hospital is posted with a 30.06 sign...

Bullet Point: On the premises of a church, synagogue, or other place of worship -

Not so, unless posted with a 30.06 sign

I called the phone number listed in his article to discuss the above, but got voice mail.

Re: Texans Respond to License to Carry

""If you can distinguish it is a gun, that is not concealed," Miller said."

Right, but if all that can be "distinguished" is a lump, don't sweat it.

Re: Texans Respond to License to Carry

RRCHL,

You posted: "Even if they are getting the word out and an earful that still wont stop them from posting signs that are unenforceable. I don't even remember the last time I had to take my firearm off before entering a place of business. Nobody posts 30.06 signs and if they do they aren't noticeable. Same will hold true with the 30.07 signs.

I don't understand.

Most especially this part of your post: "Nobody posts 30.06 signs and if they do they aren't noticeable."

I know of quite a number of business's that have 30.06 signs posted like JSC Credit Union, (they're located all over the Houston and Clear Lake area) St. John's hospital, (and a lot of other hospitals) that are very noticeable. I won't continue to list them, but they're are plenty of others that exist and are properly posted.

Come Jan 1, 2016 30.7 signs will start showing up at business's too.

I would prefer no business's posted these signs, but we have to live with them whether we like it or not.

So, what am I overlooking or simply not understanding regarding your posts about these signs?

Thanks!

Re: Texans Respond to License to Carry

Were I in business and didn't welcome OC, I would put up the sign.

As an employer, I wouldn't want to put my employees (or myself) in the position of asking a customer to leave his gun outside. Even if the customer complies, you've embarrassed him or worse...

I can see many an employee as timid type personalities quavering and gulping with fear when told to tell the gunslinger to leave his gun outside or just plain leave. Most folks fear confrontation or are extremely embarrassed by confrontation especially with strangers and generally in front of an audience of other customers.

The sign would eliminate that situation.

Of course, if some nitwit decides he's coming in OCing anyway, with the sign well in place, I wouldn't confront him.

With a phone call, I'd let an LEO do that...I don't know this OCing guy. For all I know he's a powder keg ready to explode when told to leave his gun outside.

Heck, we've already had a few people here state they're going to push the limits by OCing in Whataburger, even though they know WB's anti-OC policy.
