When my daughter was 18, we had almost the exact exchange. She said I was being unfair when it came to expenses. She was continuing to live with me after graduating High School.
When she tallied up all I was paying for (at my request and with my help) and then compared what she brought to the table, she looked chagrined.
She never complained about it again.
