I don't think this guy's a pacifist.
When we first met, we'd started to discuss politics and he promptly and quite proudly told me his parents had been American communists. I took this news calmly and he seemed vaguely disappointed in my response.
At one point, I'd offered my viewpoint regarding my dismay at growing federal control impacting individual rights, upon which he started to get hot under the collar. Initially, I let his disagreeable and quite heated manner go by the wayside, but soon his behavior and words were so over the top as to be insulting. I put my hand up in the universal stop gesture and he paused. I asked him, in a low tone, if he was getting angry. He bluntly replied, he was. I told him "DON'T"! He visibly paled and quickly started acting like an adult once more.
He'd been trying to intimidate me with his red faced anger because I disagreed with his political views. I doubt that real pacifists act bellicose as their fall back position when disagreed with.
Like this guy, I think those who buy into the far left viewpoint are basically unable to confront common sense when it's discussed and dream up irrational responses they hope might be seen as noble, when in fact their bizarre view is as nonsensical as their political perspective.

Re: Ralph, My Lefty Neighbor
A lefty acquaintance and I were speaking recently and he informed me that: He's so anti-gun that if confronted by a bad guy he'd simply let himself be killed before he'd use a firearm to defend himself.
I asked if he'd let his wife (no children) be killed if he could defend her life with a firearm and he simply clammed up, looking rather pouty as did so...
I don't know what to think of a guy who'd assume the life of a criminal is somehow elevated above his own and presumably his loved ones.
No, he's not a Hindu, or belong to any particularly passive type religion or cult. Actually, he Jewish, but I guess he'd never make it as Israeli soldier either.
Apparently, when it comes to anti-gun folks, thinking about such common sense things as self-defense for yourself or loved ones, ideology is more important.
This perspective is undoubtedly considered "noble" by those who follow this path. Sadly, a huge percentage of our national policy makers think the same irrational (we are not worthy) way.
