Re: Did the Russians affect your vote?

Ronald Reagan opposed the Soviet Union. He didn't advocate some kind of perpetual race war against the slavic peoples. Russia and the USSR are not the same entity. The USSR was an empire bent upon a quasi religious crusade to dominate the world with the aid of numerous subversive elements the world over, including within the USA. Russia is a struggling middle tier nation state whose national identity and pride still depend upon the memory of the respect that it commanded as the Soviet Union. People who have lived under socialism won't go back.

At this point, our best move is to push for Russian membership in NATO. The organizational purpose of stopping T-80s driving through the Central German Lowlands ended in 1991. The alliance needs to reorient to new threats or end. Russia needs this more than we do because their military strength hides an economy smaller than Italy's (the nation whose finances are so bad that it threatens the EU).

The Russian Federation gains nothing from war with the US, and we gain nothing from war with Russia. China is a real and active threat, and bullying other nations into their sphere of influence is insane. Russia, Korea and Japan matter most, and for now only Russia has nukes.
