I agree, but I worry that you think that my motivation is "cheerleading". I'd call it "Seeing the writing on the wall and hoping to make the best of it."Never been a fan of rooting for a period of collapse just to try to bury an ideology. The left is currently cheerleading for a collapse in hopes that it will undo Trump.

Re: Nobody but Bernie Sanders
Sanders is probably going to win, but in the long term that's a good thing. The odds that the current economic bubble lasts for another 4 years are very low, and as a result, if Trump is re-elected, he'll take the blame. Whoever sits in the White House when the music stops will take the fall, no matter whose fault it was (I'd vote that Trump and Obama should split it 30/70). If Trump gets that blame it will likely damage Republican electoral performance for a decade or more.
At this point, with these risks, I'll take President Sanders trying to explain away a depression (and restrained by a Republican controlled Senate and/or House). As much as Sanders talks about guns being the devil, he'll make zero legislative progress in the regard unless the Democrats completely sweep the House and Senate. If Sanders is sitting in the White House trying to fight a depression armed with negative interest rates and more Quantitative Easing he WILL provoke stagflation. Bernie Sanders flailing about and making an economic collapse worse will injure socialism for decades, and by extension the proponents of gun control.
Keeping McSally and Collins in the Senate is a big deal, especially since those votes will also require a moderate to replace RGB.
