Thanks for all the input I have read all the posts.
I have an assortment of ball ammo that I have been using for range practice.
My current HP holdings consist of: - Federal 165gr JHP and Monarch 185gr JHP.
I hold more of the Monarch at the moment, though the few filled mags have the Federal in them so I guess that it what I will be carrying until I buy something else.

.45 HP necessary YorN
I did a quick search of the forum to find out if this question had been asked before. If it has, then apologies but I did not find any previous thread.
Up until now my day to day carry weapon has been 9mm. I am now considering switching to my 1911 (once I get a better holster). When I do make the switch I would be interested in opinions as to whether .45acp expanding bullets are really necessary. I don't want this thread to become another 9mm vs 45 bash and I accept the consensus that with 9mm expansion is the way to go. However with 45acp is that really needed. the projectile already makes a bigger hole and carries more mass but with it's lower velocity does an expanding bullet risk an undesirable reduction in penetration.
Put simply will ball rounds be good enough for defence, while reducing the risk of a miss-feed that can happen with HP.
