Yep - companies and governments that collect massive amounts of data are not to be trusted.Abraham wrote:bblhd672,

Re: Knowing Now Are You Still Participating in Face Book?
Every device that your internet traffic makes along the way to and from it's destination doesn't HAVE to log and store that information in a database for someone to analyze your traffic for advertising or law enforcement or any other reason. There is no logical reason, nor should there be a legal one, for my internet address and the address I am accessing to be captured for long term storage just because a router somewhere sent it along that path.Abraham wrote:In general, If you think you're not being tracked let's look at this analogy: postal analogy
Privacy, tracking and the Internet is much bigger than a bread box and it can't easily be explained.
The best analogy would be how a package moves thru the postal system. The package has a destination address like a street address or an IP address. Your IP address MUST stay attached to your package, or the package will never get delivered.
Everywhere along the way your IP address Must be captured to continue moving to the destination.
Tracking: how the captured IP address is stored for future use is where security controls come into play.
Agree?
Disagree?
If you disagree, how am I wrong?
Thanks!
Frankly, it's reached a point where I don't think ANY company or government entity can be trusted not to use captured data against law abiding citizens.

I'm sure FB will say they never said Messenger was "private" between the sender and recipient.Facebook scans the contents of messages that people send each other on its Messenger app blocking any that contravene its guidelines, it has emerged.

Your first stop from your device onto the internet, your internet service provider's equipment, has the ability to track/log all of your web activity if they desire.mojo84 wrote:Abraham, I use https://www.startpage.com/ as my search engine. While is also uses Google behind the scenes, it is my understanding it blocks my IP address from Google tracking.
However, with that said. It is very difficult to not be tracked by somebody. It takes a lot of work and some IT knowledge. Even then, I am not convinced anything is 100%. If you are on the internet, there is someone watching and tracking. Take for instance, the fact you use a Yahoo email account, opens the door for the liberal yahoo to track much of what you do on the internet. Most websites you go to store cookies and other data on your computer that helps track your activities.
This is why I take such a strong position when someone on the internet calls me a hypocrite for being on the internet. If someone is on the internet, even when the computer is not actively being used, there is data being exchanged.

I signed up for MeWe a few weeks ago, but haven't really looked at it.mojo84 wrote:Here is and alternative to facebook for those that are interested. Maybe enough people will move over to it so it will be a viable platform. However, it appears quite a few that have set up accounts have done so in addition to their facebook account rather than instead of.

If you are not interested or don't want to utilize such a platform, then don't.

You should get back on FB and be obstinate with people who don’t share your views rather taking out your anger on us who aren’t meeting your expectations for our lives.Abraham wrote:Rotor,
Of course you're math is spot on, but those who resist are weak.
Why, I know FB is leftist, but I have to stay with it because...I'm a weakling.
I'm hopelessly hooked and need to join some 12 step program to rid myself of FB.
Here's a start, quit worrying and using FB.
Pretty simple.
FB needs to die.
Fewer users, quicker death to a leftist monster.

Re: Knowing Now Are You Still Participating in Face Book?
99% of my FB usage is keeping up with my grown children and my grandson. I am in the process of deleting all posts I've made, pictures I've uploaded, any books, movies, TV shows or any other category of things I've "liked" on FB.
By the time we've all became aware of the tracking going on by FB, Google, etc any agency that is interested has us in its databases, doesn't matter much whether we continue to use FB. If every gun owner in America, say 100 million, deactivated their FB accounts tomorrow, do you think it would matter to Zuckerberg and friends? It might matter to the legions of people they've employed to hunt down and delete our "offensive" posts.
