I am unsure of the origins as I have never seen it attributed to anybody, but an instructor of mine had written on his dry erase board the following words:

"The absence of profanity offends no one."

On the surface it is simple, but an in depth look reveals just how true that is. Go to a bar and don't use profanity and see if anybody even notices. Go to a church and use profanity and see how every one notices.
