January 7, 2022 5:15pm (9 days) Friday 302,367,482 (+2,010,059)per 24 hr average over 9 days) cases worldwide with 5,478,105 (+6,407) dead 9,371,317,757 vaccine doses, USA 59,114,417 (+613,047) infected, 835,929 (+2,022 per day) dead .

January 10, 2022 2:21pm (3 days almost) Monday 308,619,579 (+2,084,032 per 24 hr average over 3 days an increase of 20,010 per day) cases worldwide with 5,492,243 (+4,712 a decrease of 1,695 per day) dead 9,439,843 vaccine doses, USA 60,784,265 59,114,417 (+556,616 a decrease of 56,431 per day) infected, 838,527 (+866 a decrease of 1,156 per day) dead .

So is the U. S. turning the corner with this small daily decrease in new infections and new deaths?

Of course 556,616 new daily infections is still a lot.
Yep. I still have a .2% chance of getting sick with coof.
I"m curious what numbers you used. I know there are different ways to calculate this. Very early on, like in April of 2020 the per capita infections were 0.02% of the Texas population. The numbers I had then were a population of 29,360,000 and as of 4/5/2020 6,877 cases. As of yesterday, with a 2021 Texas population of 29,527,941 and total cases of 5,087,686, that yields a per capita infection of 17.2%.

Of course using vaccinated numbers or numbers from some different location, maybe a small rural town or something, you can get different numbers. I know there are several different ways to look at it but I'm just curious how you got .2%?

Death rate had gotten as high as 2.7% in Texas (I know some of the counting can be in question but this si pretty much consistent globally), with Omicron, treatment improvements, vaccines etc it's dropped back down to 1.5% in Texas. Thats from the beginning. I'm sure it's much lower if you only look since Omicron.

I don't have any numbers for being sick enough to be in the hospital.
Statistics was never my strongest subject, so I could be magnitudes of incorrect. 556,616/300,000,000 (approximate population of U.S.) = 0.0018 chance of contracting covid.
556,616 was the number of people who tested positive in a single day in the US. So saying a 0.0018 chance of contracting covid on THAT DAY, it would be more accurate.

I debated whether to post this in the meme thread, or this one. I figured that since it is more related to Covid and the lockdowns, it belongs here. Have some humor everyone!

Study in Japan shows a specific wavelength of UV light kills Covid 19, but is safe around humans.
I was actually having a conversation with the neighbor of a friend of mine about far UVC light and it's ability to kill corona viruses. The odd part is, the conversation started about weather (he knows I'm a skywarn storm spotter) and morphed into talk about physics and other scientific topics.

Then the blue states would be sick.

I‘m beginning to feel that until a vaccine is available this current condition we are in will just go on forever.

Eventually everyone will get it. Or maybe we get herd immunity.

We really want red states well in November.

No telling how this may affect the election.

Sadly, I suspect that the blue states would have responded by doing the same thing that democrats in Texas have. They'd push for universal mail-in voting, something that has potential for much easier election tampering.

Steven Crowder's "Change my mind" segments are always entertaining. I also like how he tries to have civil and respectful conversations with people. We need more of that in this world, not shouting opinions at each other.

Russia overtakes France and Germany.

USA way ahead of everyone by miles.
Of course USA is ahead of every other country...the CDC has told doctors that everything that causes death can be attributed to the virus.

Assume everything is fake news...especially on yahooze..
I do not believe the statement that the USA has more reported "cases" than others is false. The USA is also doing more testing than other countries. That being said, the number of "cases" is irrelevant to me, and should be the same for the average person. Sure, it is handy for people attempting to track hot spots and such. However the only statistics that should really matter are hospitalizations (or hospitalization rate) and deaths (mortality rate).

People who test positive who NEVER experience any symptoms? What does that matter? Publishing those stats for the public to see only stokes fear, something the media loves to do.
Masking is not to protect YOU, it is to protect everyone else. Have elderly parents, immuno-compromised friends, children with asthma, etc., etc.? Wear a mask, if you aren't in the same household, and mask-up when you go out to minimize the chances of bringing things home. I've been working with it since March 17. The people that have gone home universally say, "Don't say you want to get this & get it over with!" We've been very fortunate. Yes, there are definite identifiable social differences between the hotspots and the rest of the country, but it is a pathogen, and it will get around. This is not something you want popping up in a town of 2000-4000 at a church potluck, after a few people come back from visiting out of state. No need to be fearful, but do not be incautious.

Why do we stress firearm safety? To protect people around the person with the gun, mostly. Same with Covid.
I don't think anyone in the thread quoted above said not to wear a mask. I don't think anyone in the thread quoted above said not to take precautions. I think it's wise for everyone to take precautions against communicable diseases at all times. I simply said that (in my opinion) the only stats that should concern the general public are hospitalizations and deaths.

I appreciate that you have been working with this since March. There are several on this forum who are putting in long hours/days due to the pandemic. Your efforts are not lost on me and I thank you for your time.
