It took me over two weeks to even get the email saying they received my documents. Been over 3 weeks and still zero updates online. Not even that the documents have been received. I think I might be one of the people who receives the plastic before seeing any change online. Time to stalk the mailman soon.
Be patient. Some of us were in the situation that they didn't even post status updates. You sent in your paperwork and waited 2+ months and then one day you see the option to change your address. Sometimes the plastic would arrive before that even happened. I think my friends waited somewhere around 3-4 months, but that was back in the early part of the year when there was a huge backlog. DPS seems to be caught up on most things now. I would expect you could see something before long. In the mean time, start shopping for holsters and practice carrying and drawing at the house.
Spoke too soon. The very next morning my online status changed to "Background Check : Under review" everything else is green except for the "Print Pending"
There you go! Won't be long

Re: "Waiting Room"

Algill1279 wrote:My wife and I filled out state application and did finger printing prior to taking the LTC course on 9/17. After completing the course and submitting certificates online the same day, we both received confirmation emails on 9/21 stating all required documentation had been received. Well, she received her license Monday 10/3 and other than a public intoxication when I was 18 (I'm 36 now) I have no criminal history. My BG check status is still under review. All else is green excluding BG and print pending.
I just find it odd that we submitted and did everything at the same time, yet mine is still under review. Is she just lucky to have gotten her plastic 16 days after completion of class and my situation is more typical? Or should I be concerned?
I took the class and submitted the CHL-100 form with my 2 friends on the same day. My plastic came in 1 month before theirs did. I suspect that having a common name can have some impact on delays as mine is a very uncommon last name and my friends have more common ones. There are any other number of factors that can cause a delay, even though there is nothing wrong in your background. Take advantage of the time to shop around for holsters and practice carrying around the house.

GeminiDiva77 wrote:Hello all,

I am new to this forum. As of today, I am still waiting...

TIMELINE

08/13 - Took CHL Class
08/15 - Application Online
08/16 - Fingerprints
08/16 - Mailed Documents via Certified Mail
08/18 - Documents Received (Per tracking information)
09/02 - Status finally updated online (Fingerprints - Under Review & Background Check - Under Review)

It seems the people that submitted their information online vs. sending in the mail are the ones receiving their LTC quicker. Correct me if I am wrong. I am not sure why it's taking so long for me. I have had a FBI background check done for my current employer, and I have passed the background check to purchase. I actually purchased my firearm in June.
Welcome to the forums! I too have to do frequent background checks at work. Things appear to be moving faster now than they were at the start of the year. Be patient, and use this time to pick out your holster(s) and practice carrying around the house. You'll have your plastic before you know it!

How long did it take you guys to receive yours in the mail once the status had changed to "mailed"

Thanks,

My LTC arrived when they didn't have a "status" so to speak. But from the day they mail it to the arrival seems to be 2-3 days typically from what I've seen. YMMV

You were planning on deleting your account on TexasCHLforum.com?

Why?

I've been here for over a decade and I know of no more informative source for Texas carry. Bar none.

Stay with us. Stay with the thousands of us.
:iagree:

The discussions and community here are easily my #1 resource now for firearms and laws relating to firearms.

Don´t get into a twist about the change of address. It is no different than your drivers license. As long as you SUBMIT the change to DPS within the time frame designated by law, you will be fine. Change it at the same time you change your DL. You will have a PAPER drivers license with your new address which would show any law enforcement officer that you just moved. :rules:
Three days since they approved my application and still no plastic. Seems like everyone got theirs the very next day. Is something wrong? :mad5
A buddy of mine was told last week he was approved and being sent to print. His status changed Wednesday 6/8, and his plastic arrived Thursday 6/9.

There are several variables that can possibly delay processing;
  • Common names
    Living outside of the state
Not to mention any potential items discovered when doing the background check
I have a relatively common name, and lived many places outside of Texas, but still got mine in 27 days. I wonder if it's because I have been through MANY background checks by numerous 3 letter agencies that maybe have made it faster?? Or maybe it's pure dumb luck.
Don't know. mine took 65 days from all-in to plastic. A buddy of mine took almost 90. I've never lived outside of Texas and have an uncommon last name. But this was also back when they were severely backlogged. You may have just got lucky with your timing.
