Re: Any updates?
The legislation pertains to carrying of a handgun. It does not restrict unlicensed individuals to open carry. This is an example of an either uninformed/misinformed reporter, or an intentionally misleading reporter.

Re: Any updates?
I find it amusing that Rep Huberty mentioned that folks who had been calling his office to please stop....apparently the message has been heard. This is how things SHOULD work. Politely and firmly let your opinion be known.
In person is best, but not always feasible. Phone calls and hand written letters are good as they show you took time out of your day to make your opinion known. Emails are the least effective, but that does not mean it has zero impact. The key though is to be polite. Folks that are rude are just going to be ignored as a "nutcase". Don't let your message get lost in your delivery!

Re: Any updates?
I believe it's important to let our legislators know our opinion. There were multiple amendments offered by democrats yesterday that were less severe and handily shut down. I personally do not expect this one to pass either and believe it to be nothing more than political theater.AndyC1911 wrote: ↑Fri Apr 16, 2021 9:02 am Something I came across:

GOA Texans
URGENT: Rep. Huberty is trying to weaken Constitutional Carry on 3rd Reading on the House floor today.
Right now in the bill there's an exception to "gun-free" zones - if you leave when you are personally told guns aren't allowed, there's no penalty.
Huberty wants anyone who crosses the threshold of a school with a gun safely in a holster to get a 3rd-degree felony - $10,000 fine or up to 10 years in prison.
CALL Rep. Huberty's office NOW and tell him to WITHDRAW this amendment.

Re: Any updates?
I agree 100% with this. It was a nice breath of fresh air to hear him speak like that.Papa_Tiger wrote: ↑Thu Apr 15, 2021 7:00 pm If you did not hear it, I HIGHLY recommend listening to or reading Representative Canales' closing remarks once the journal/recording are available online. He is normally a staunchly anti-gun Democrat. I found his closing comments to be well articulated and frankly a bit surprising (spoiler alert, he voted FOR passage of HB 1927).

After reading the text of the actual amendment, I change my position on the POO.Flightmare wrote: ↑Thu Apr 15, 2021 4:07 pmI actually agree with the POO here. There is nothing in this bill pertaining to foster parents, nor carrying in a vehicle. This bill specifically is for carrying in public without a license. The POO should be sustained.

The amendment simply changes the law to where the foster parent is required to have a license to being someone not otherwise prohibited from possessing a firearm. That does sound germane to the legislation

Re: Any updates?
She tried to say that felons don't carry now because of licensing requirements. And this bill makes it where you can't tell who is a felon carrying and who is not. I literally laughed out loud. Does she really believe that felons don't carry now? How many mass shootings have been committed by prohibited possessors?Syntyr wrote: ↑Thu Apr 15, 2021 3:26 pm A freshman representative now has started crying. Saying this discussion is eye opening and hurtful.
Amendment 14
Allowing officers to disarm people in Courthouses.
Saying that courthouse shootings have occurred before carry laws.
Says we will have to have officers and metal detectors at every door.

Re: Any updates?
Anchia amendment 13, again domestic terrorism. He cites those who commit treason or sedition. I thought those were already felonies. If found guilty, wouldn't that automatically make a person a prohibited possessor? If so, this amendment is not needed. Next!
