What is the basis fir the assertion that one cannot? Unless an act is proscribed by law, it it legal.
Bottom line: 18 USC 930, which generally bans firearms in federal buildings, does not apply to the Post Office. Instead, they have their own published Rule (39 CFR 232.1) against firearms. The biggest difference is that being found in violation of 18 USC 930 is a felony, but the maximum penalty for violating 39 CFR 232.1 is a $50 fine, 30 days in jail, or both.
