Thanks, HV. I looked for the 135gr, but couldn't find it locally, thus the 125s.

Well, I'm home from Okiehomie. I spent the morning visiting a couple of gun shops and Bass Pro before leaving OKC.

When I got home, I went to unpack. I came back out and told Mary I'd brought her a present, a Fobus paddle holster for her Makarov. She said that was nice.

Then I told her I'd also bought her another holster, as I reached into my weak-side hip pocket. I pulled out the Uncle Mike's pocket holster and said, "...for your NEW gun!" I unholstered the Model 85, and she squealed like I'd just given her a bulldog puppy.

"It's so cute! Sorry, honey, that's a girl thing to say, but it's cute!"

I didn't mind.

Short version: she's ecstatic about having a revolver, and she already feels far more comfortable with it than with the Mak. She's been practicing loading and unloading snap-caps and trying out the trigger. I bought a big box of 158gr LRN, and a box of 125gr Gold Dots. We'll hit the range tomorrow and start breaking it in. After she burns up the plinking rounds, I want her to fire at least one cylinder full of the +P, so she knows what it will feel and sound like. I'm also going to take the snap-caps for some ball-and-dummy drills. She understands completely why we'll be doing that, and thinks it's a good idea.

I also picked up a couple of HKS speedloaders, but found out they don't work well on this gun. The cylinder just doesn't swing out far enough to line everything up properly. The loader winds up canted just a bit, and the rounds don't want to fall down into place.

I would never hatch a scheme like that!

... but I make take advantage of a situation when it arises.

Okay, since this is my first revolver, any recommendations for ammo from that 2" barrel?

Darn the luck!

I stopped by Gander Mountain today to pick up some long drawers, since I'm heading to Oklahoma early in the morning to spend the day outside, and it's likely to be very cold.

I stopped by the gun counter, as always, and talked myself into paying $299 for a Taurus Model 85 (2", blue). I figured it would be just the thing for Mary to have as a truck gun, since I'm unlikely to convince her to get her CHL and actually carry.

The fellow went to get the box, and came back with two. He said, "A guy had us order this one, but he never picked it up. You want it instead, for the same price?" He opened the box, and it was a stainless ultralight.

Like the man said, it doesn't take me long to look at a horseshoe.

So with the gun, the clothing, etc., I wrote them a check that was $1.02 less than the per diem check I deposited this morning. Can you say "karma"?

Oh, as for "darn the luck"... Mary might not like shooting that little 17 ounce beastie, so I might have to buy her a steel version.
