What's scary is that I completely understand the urge to be a flashlight geek, which has to be the same tendency that caused someone to create flashlightreview.com.

I've got a dozen or more (not including "drawer lights"), but I don't think I paid more than $25 for any of them (probably a 3D MagLite, back when big and heavy was cool).

My current favorite is the "Cyclops". The 2-pack for under $20 at Sam's is pretty hard to beat for a 2x123A Surefire clone. I've got several LEDs, but the only ones I like were also a 2-pack at Sam's. I forget the brand, but they're silver and use a 3xAAA carrier. They have a traditional rubber button instead of a tail clicky. Good light, with only the slightest blue tinge.

The problem with most LEDs is that they can be bright as all get-out, but they have a very narrow spectrum, and don't illuminate the subject well enough to identify. Incandescents, especially Xenons, throw a full spectrum of light that refracts and reflects well, so you can identify the target.
