Re: Shot placement is more important than caliber but...

Saw an episode of The First 48 where a man was shot in the chest with a .22LR, once and died. I mean he dropped and was DRT. the perp said he shot him with the .22 cause he didn't think it would hurt him too bad, but would scare him good.
srsly.

and we've all heard of the Cop who was shot with a .22LR in which the round went through the arm hole of his vest and killed him DRT.

and we've all heard of the Car Salesman who shot the perp several times in the noggin with a .45ACP, and the round skipped off the skull and stayed directly under the skin.

I still wouldn't just let anyone flick a booger at me, but I'm still not gonna depend on a booger-flicker for self defense.

Re: Shot placement is more important than caliber but...

or you could get a Springfield XDm. interchangeable grips, AND you don't have to pull the trigger for takedown.

Re: Shot placement is more important than caliber but...

there's a world of difference between saying something will be totally ineffectual at any distance and could never cause any harm, rather than having a proven track record.

I sure would NOT stand there and let anyone shoot me with anything, even a pellet gun, yet I still wouldn't rely solely on that pellet gun as a means of self defense...

dude died. from one hit. didn't even hit his heart.
so thur ya urr.
as a caveat to this, as well, the "victim" ran two blocks and finally bled out in someone's front yard.
what's interesting to me, at least, is that the women I have seen shoot prefer bigger than what you'd expect calibers.
I bought my gal a Bersa .380 as a gift. she loves it, and can shoot it pretty well.
she, however, prefers her Springfield XD in .40S&W.
I'd say let have her shoot a few different options, and most of all, let her pick them out.
a smaller gun is going to have more recoil, as well, so she may not really want a smaller gun in the long run.
I know a few ladies that prefer a snub nosed revolver in .38Spl, but have seen plenty shoot much bigger just as well.
