Re: "Waiting Room"
The Texas LTC background investigation is much more extensive than the NICS check. Physical-mental-criminal-financial etc for a total of right at 21 items investigated per applicant. Not all of which is computerized. The wait clock starts once all items have been received. Just an observation from people posting here, if you're all in date and no disqualifiers the turn around is running 40-48 business days- 75-90 calender days. I'm aware of the statutory 60 day issue/contact requirement, just telling you my observation. Some are issued quicker, some are taking longer.PhilBob wrote:Since I am now at 65 calendar days, all in 3/14, and am seeing a number of people who were all-in in February and March already getting their plastic, I am a little concerned. I am in two categories getting additional scrutiny due to Obama executive orders. They are trying to exclude issuing licenses to social security recipients "if they lack the mental capacity to manage their own affairs" and veterans, citing PTSD issues. I do receive Social Security and am a Vietnam vet but manage my own finances and, fortunately, have never suffered from PTSD. I suspect that additional scrutiny may be adding to my waiting time and as one who isn't and shouldn't be disqualified for either reason I am getting frustrated as my NICS check when buying my gun prior to these additional criteria went through in just a couple of minutes.
There are states that if you have no arrests and no warrants- here's your carry license. There are states with constitutional carry. Texas is not one of these states. The Texas Legislature set the strict guidelines for issuance.
Good Luck

Re: "Waiting Room"
Here is the list required to obtain your LTC as required by the Texas Legislature (not DPS they just comply with legislators mandates)

I called back in March and they said it would be done by the middle of April. Here we are and nothing has come. Website has not changed. No plastic. Nothing in the mail. No news. Tumbleweeds. Is this just a Texas thing, or do all the sates take this long? My friend at work said his took a week in GA. He might have been full of _______ though.
There statue says, "they have an additional 180 days from submitting supporting documents". So with that in mind, you're probably in the same boat as me, in the extremely long wait line.
Took about 30 seconds to find your answer via Google. Georgia background check is 12 items that would all be in your computerized criminal history check thru the State and Feds computers. The Texas LTC requires about 21 items to be checked, some-actually quite a few that are not computerized. The list of things required for a Texas LTC is very extensive.

The legislature wrote the law, not the police. Personally I am for constitutional carry at best and at worst an LTC holder should be legal anywhere a peace officer can carry and do away with 06 07 signs.

Re: "Waiting Room"
You can anticipate 60 working days from the time everything is turned in and accepted. Maybe quicker, probably not. Your LTC fee goes to the General Revenue Fund of the State of Texas, not the agency or program. Your money went to fund k-12, higher Ed, Medicaid and corrections.
The DPS and it's personnel are great people. Apparently you don't know any personally. Their (DPS) budget was set two years ago by a legislative process that meets for 90 days every two years.
If you're eligible, it will come. Trust me on the 60 working days until they get caught up with a five to sixfold increase in LTC applications.

Re: "Waiting Room"
If RSD got your prints on 1/4 on 3-11 that is your 45th business day. You hit the magic slam where multiple State holidays and weekends occurred during Christmas and New Year but the mailed and emailed applications continue arriving. Be patient. If you are qualified, it will arrive b

Your clock will start once all correct Doc's are received in Austin. So if your all in date is 1/21 allow 60 business days from 1/21.
