The City of Austin violated the state's open carry law on six occasions, the court indicated, and ordered the city to pay a fine of $1,500 for each violation.
I guess they copy off of each other.

It saves reporters a lot of time to just cut and paste. You know how tedious it can be doing actual research.

The maximum fine for the first offense is $1,500 per day per sign. All subsequent fines are either $10,000 or $10,500 per day per fine.

Charles, I'll admit, my work schedule has prevented me from keeping as close a watch on proposed bill for this session, but could you tell me if there are any plans, in this session, to address, a more streamlined, enforcement of this law? Or possibly, a better clarification, for exactly when, where, and how government agencies, can prohibit carry? These cases, take too long to be resolved, and, are too easily circumvented, by officials who don't want the State to dictate what they can do. I have written my reps, and Governor Abbot, but have gotten no definitive answers.

This is why, the Legislature, should take up this issue again, and amend/stipulate/specify, exactly, in all cases, whether or not, when and where the city/county/State, can prohibit, carry.

This should have never been left up to the AG to render opinions, or file lawsuits, to get something done, that should be settled law.

I have already flooded, my reps with emails, demanding that they either author, or at least co-sponsor, a bill to make it legal, for LTC holders to carry everywhere, LEO can carry. Until we get a law passed, there will be an unending backlog of cases, like this, that will never get settled, to the extent that they should be. JMHO

As I noted earlier, they are going out in small batches. All the recent ones are dated 4/29.

Looks like some of these folks are getting the message, and removing signs before they are ordered to do so. The County courthouses seem to have the idea that if their commissioners or judges make a decree, then that is the law. I'm glad to see the AG is showing them that the State Legislature, and not local officials, are the ones who actually make the rules. I hope that this trend continues and that the AG continues to act on these complaints. I would still like to see how the ruling will go regarding the Ft. Worth Zoo.

To be frank, I'm on the fence about this. I think it may be way to tempting for someone with a CHL who is carrying at a gun show, to pull it out (the gun that is) to try a holster or something. They can post other signs to effect of "keep all loaded firearms holstered at all times" instead of 30.06/30.07 signs. Would work just fine.

If an LTC holder unholsters a loaded gun, they are in violation if they do so without justification of needing to use deadly force. That applies at gun shows or the corner grocery store. I would also hope that LTC holders are smart enough, that, if they want to try out holsters, or any other accessories, for their carry gun, that they do so with it unloaded and locked by security. They can still have carry gun, but not the one they are buying anything for.

On a side note, most people who OC at gun shows are looking to sell or trade the gun that is visible, so others may ask to see it. I would advise to CC your EDC and only OC one you are looking to sell or buy parts/accessories. JMHO

I am sure the law was meant to be applied to the large parks Six Flags, Sea World, Astroworld etc.. However, like a lot of things with the 75 acre minimum requirement, the Dallas Zoo falls under that umbrella. As stated by a previous poster, this will have to be addressed by the legislature. The AG can't unilaterally change the statute. I too am frustrated, but I'm a person that likes to make things happen quickly, and unfortunately when it comes to this type of thing in the State government, speed is not their strong suit. I do applaud the AG for investigating these on a one by one basis, since the laws are somewhat convoluted, and each case will have it's own unique resolution. I will continue to write my state representatives to address these issues in the upcoming session, but until then we can only twiddle our thumbs until these issues are resolved.

I haven't been to the main court house in Cleburne in quite a while, there is a sub court house in Alvarado, that was posted 30.06 before the law changed, they now only have signage on the door to the Justice of the peace courtroom, and they put up temporary signs at the entry to the polling section when they had primary voting in February.

I guess the wheels of justice do turn slow, but I like the fact that there is action being taken. hopefully, most of the cities and counties still in violation will take heed, and start removing signs before they get the letters detailing their fines.
