Could be. They may have been assigned to write opposing views on a current event topic.

I am not sure why it is scarier.

Yeah I think their point got lost or edited out somewhere. They seemed to just throw together sentences, without making a point. But at least there are kids actually trying to perfect their craft, and I wish them luck. Maybe as they move forward and take a little more time to check facts, their opinions will change.

Although he does a better job than most of the reporters I have recently read, he does need improve his fact checking.

Yeah I think his numbers may be somewhat skewed, but if you click on the related link just to the right of this column, you will see an opposing view by two other students, who will definitely need more time in English class, along with the fact that they almost totally discredit their own story.
