Re: Today in Trump's new term as President
I don't need to listen to a couple of militant atheists spout liberal talking points. I am a scientist too, and I can think for myself. Man-caused climate change may or may not exist, but the Paris accord was a bad deal, regardless. Just because someone labels something as good for the environment doesn't mean that if you don't support it you're a "science denier" or hate the environment. Our government should definitely be working toward less pollution and cleaner energy. The Paris accord was not the right way to do that.

He gave it to the National Park Service? That's weird. The media keeps telling me President Trump hates the environment.

Re: Today in Trump's new term as President
Sounds like a plan. A dear friend of mine, who died a few years back from cancer from his exposure to agent orange, had nothing but good things to say about his experience with the VA. However, I'm aware this is not the experience everyone has had.Jusme wrote: Yeah I doubt that was all that was discussed. Trump has been very vocal during the campaign, as well as since taking office, about fixing the VA issues, so I'm sure there were much more important issues addressed.
I have a very simple solution to the VA issues. Once someone is honorably discharged, they are issued a card like a credit card. It will have the soldier's name and serial number on it. It will say something to the effect of.
Dear Doctor, hospital, clinic, pharmacy, or any other health care provider: the bearer of this card, is an American hero, he/she is entitled to full treatment, prescriptions, or any other medical/ psychological care, and will not be subjected to any costs associated with these.
The providers who want to practice in this country will be bound by law to accept these terms or they will lose their license to practice. If they try to jack up prices above what is the normal costs, they will never be able to practice in this country again, and will face Federal jail time.
Anyone have an issue with this suggestion?

Re: Today in Trump's new term as President
Very well said Jusme. Obamacare is a socialist trojan horse. It promises to make your life better if you just give more power to the government. Because that always works out sooooo well, right? Under Obamacare, my wife's insurance dropped coverage for spouses because their costs had gone up so much. So I got insurance through my work, which was more expensive to begin with, and it promptly went up as well. The coverage got dramatically worse, costing me thousands of dollars more for the treatment I received last year than I would have paid under my previous plan. It's garbage. What's worse is that the ACA was designed to fail. It's clear, if you actually understand the way all the aspects of healthcare work on a national scale, that it was never intended to work. It was designed to make the situation worse so that the people would welcome true socialized healthcare when it was pushed for by Hillary.Jusme wrote:It is another Socialist plan that has no business being controlled by the Federal Government. Nowhere in the Constitution, is there a place that says, that health insurance is a right. It should be completely controlled by the free market. It is a redistribution tax, that requires those who can afford their own insurance, to also pay for those who can't. It is just another entitlement program, that is bankrupting the country already. Despite it's origins, it is not a workable plan. Most people don't realize that one of the ways it was passed so quickly, was that members of congress are exempted from the plan, which should tell everyone something about its worthiness.dale blanker wrote:So what is there to hate so much?
Source: A friend of mine is in a high level position within a major healthcare organization, has actually spoken before congress on the issue, and I have spoken with her at length on the subject. If you want to see what healthcare reform should actually look like, read up on Accountable Care organizations. Combined with other approaches, that's what will result in better care and lower cost.
That said, if anyone wishes to continue this discussion, let's make a separate thread instead of derailing this one. (I realize I'm just as guilty of doing so.)

I saw an article about him. He got a ton of hate for just laying out basic numbers on what he faces every day. And yeah, it was pretty grim stuff.

Thanks for the perspective. Can't believe how much has been accomplished in such a short period of time. We need a smiley with a MAGA hat or something.bblhd672 wrote:Today marks one month into President Trump's term in office.

Re: Today in Trump's new term as President
Thanks so much for posting this here. It was an excellent read. I even printed it off of a liberal but still relatively open minded coworker. She was saying just yesterday that she doesn't think President Trump should be doing so much so quickly. I think the article addresses this concern well. Much appreciated.bblhd672 wrote:Interesting take on Trump's "chaotic" first days:

Re: Today in Trump's new term as President
You'll have to remind me what part of the travel ban had to do with minority religions and not with people from hotbeds of terrorism as identified by the Obama administration. I admit I haven't followed the issue closely, but I don't remember the ban targeting Muslims, just people from a small number of the many primarily Muslim countries, not even including the largest of them, Indonesia.dale blanker wrote:The president's argument that the travel ban is intended to save lives seems compelling. I'll bet the order will be mostly restored [maybe not the part about minority religions].
Skiprr, thanks for the incredible wall of text about this issue. That was amazing. Let me know if I'm getting off topic here. I just keep hearing "Muslim Ban" from the left, so I really am curious to know if there is any validity to that claim at all in the language of the actual Executive Order signed by your Commander in Chief and mine, President Donald Trump.
EDIT: Found the text of the EO. Man, that is a dry read. I now see what Dale is talking about with minority religions. Sorry for my understandable misunderstanding. However, I fully support that part of the order. We should be prioritizing Christians experiencing religious persecution.

Re: Today in Trump's new term as President
I saw an article about that yesterday. If I find it, I'll post a link. The article was running down exactly why the dystopia of 1984 has absolutely no bearing on the Trump presidency. It looked at the government structure being completely different, different social structure, and different policies. The author said the one we should be looking at more is Huxley's Brave New World. I didn't get to finish reading the article, and I haven't read Brave New World, so I can't really comment on that part. What I got to read was pretty interesting though.Skiprr wrote:The tangentially related supreme headscratcher of the administration so far:
Publisher's Weekly reported yesterday that the #1 selling book in the country after 10 days' of the Trump Presidency is...wait for it...wait for it...George Orwell's 1984.
Our leftist educators adding maybe a little something to the spring and summer quarters about the election of Donald Trump?John Maher, for Publisher's Weekly wrote:Print sales of the Signet Classics edition of 1984 for the week ended Jan. 29 were almost 26,000 copies at outlets that report to NPD BookScan, making it the biggest selling book in the week. Sales the previous week were about 4,500 copies.
"In one week, Signet Classics has reprinted 500,000 copies of 1984," Signet v-p and executive publicity director Craig Burke said. "That’s [over twice what] we sell in a typical year."
ETA: Found it. Maybe I can finish reading it later.

Re: Today in Trump's new term as President
Even at my most optimistic, I did not imagine that President Trump would act so quickly and decisively. I am very much impressed and encouraged.
