I don't think this is the best test of whether something is a good SD choice. After all, I am not willing to let someone stab me with a Swiss army knife, but I still think it is a sub-optimal choice as a SD weapon.

Point taken on 9mm vs .45, though. Personally, I carry both. Generally, it is based more on whether I like a particular model of gun, since most of my gun choices only come in one caliber. The only cases where I have made a choice are with my 1911's and my Shield. In both cases, the trade off was between losing one round of capacity for the bigger bullet, and I personally chose the bigger bullet.

A couple more:

The stigma associated with the word "ignorant". It's not an insult to say that someone is uneducated on a topic, but most folks will take great offense at being told that they are ignorant about something.

Stating things as facts without having near 100% certainty that they are true. Usually done by ignorant people.

It irritates me when people say "countless" when they mean "many".
"He has won countess awards". No, you can count how many awards a person has won.

This one drives me nuts and it drives my wife nuts that I mention it every time I hear it.

I heard a local commercial for a doctor's office where they brag "we have countless consultation rooms". Wait, how many rooms are we talking about? 4 or 5? You certainly should be able to count how many consultation rooms you have at your clinic.
Maybe they are on a real time office sharing arrangement with the neighboring doctors office where the number of consultation rooms is continuously changing to meet demand?

Re: Things and Sayings That Annoy!

People who hold the elevator door while there are others in the elevator. They are making the choice to delay the folks in the elevator in order to save a few minutes for another person. While I understand the gesture, it's a bit pretentious of them to think they get to decide that person A's time is more valuable than person B.

Even worse, people who are getting on an elevator and hold the door while they finish their conversation with someone who isn't getting on the elevator.

Strangers who want to comment on my lunch choices as I am taking lunch back to my desk. Usually occurs in the elevator. "Oh, that smells good. What is it?"

I think I should just avoid elevators in general....
