We have had in laws staying with us and I have used this as an opportunity to get caught up on all my gun cleaning. At a table in the garage, far from anyone else in the house. This situation could have been avoided if the guy thought about leaving firearms out accessible to the child.
This situation could also have been avoided if the child was taught gun safety. Appropriate at that age would be "Stop, Don't touch!" type instruction.
Any gun that leaves my safe is immediately checked to ensure it is unloaded before it even heads to the gun cleaning table, of course.
