Re: How to deal effectively with businesses with 30.06 signs

This has been posted before, but it bears repeating.

People downplay the negative impact of posting 30.06/30.07 by saying that only 4-5% of Texas residents have a LTC issued by the state of Texas, and a portion of those folks will still patronize a posted business because they either don't carry at all, or will willingly disarm to eat / shop there. This is all correct, but I feel like they are missing some key factors.

The thing that matters is the impact to a businesses sales by posting signs. So we need to look at the percentage of that businesses customer base which will stop going there. This will vary tremendously based on the type of business. In particular, businesses where the key customer decision maker is over 21 (most businesses) will be impacted much more, since the percentage of LTC holders among that age group is much, much higher than the 4-5% they make up for the population as a whole. If the business caters to men, then the percentage of LTC holders in their customer base will be higher still.

The "average" business may see only a 2-5% decline after all factors are considered, but the range will be significant. Some businesses may actually see an increase in sales if they market to the same folks who are members of MDA, and other businesses could see their bottom line move into negative numbers. A smart business owner should take some time to determine the percentage of LTC holders in their target customer demographic before making any decisions on this.
