WTR wrote:Why is everyone ragging on this guy?!? 410 was made for this reason! One handed shotgun... Yes... Lower the snake population and rat and mouse population increase but at least they dont really bite you! :biggrinjester:

Rats and mice pose a greater risk to your health than a nonvenomous snake. I apologize to TT if I offended her and use an inappropriate analogy. However, I still consider killing a beneficial snake to be foolish

Would you honestly not be offended being compared to a radical group that cuts people's heads off, burns people alive, and condones using children as sex slaves???

Inappropriate really doesn't cover it sorry.

WTR wrote:Same logic.....your Dad already had him out side. Maybe you need to learn to ID snakes.
And you think he wouldn't have comeback to hunt in the same area? I was 3 steps behind the frog about to walk through the same strike path with my mom walking right behind me.

I know very little about snakes, wasn't close enough or enough light outside to clearly see the head shape, so there was only one way to be sure he would not be a threat the next day or the day after when we walked out....not that I have to explain my decision to you, or really give a flying what you think. You don't know me or anything about me.

PS did you know I've held a 20' boa constrictor? That sound like an irrational fear of snakes to you?

WTR wrote:I understand killing a poisonous snake. However, TT's snake posed her no threat and meant her no harm. It was there looking for food probably because the garage door was left up and a frog came in. Did she act as a animal predator and eat it ? She acted like ISIS killing a christian......because we are here, and they can. I don't understand this irrational fear of snakes.

Did you seriously just compare me to ISIS? :mad5

If you want to compare with politicized references, then how about I didn't let the refugee into my country because I could not VERIFY if he was a harmless rat snake or a terrorist.....

You don't know if it meant harm or not.

If you are concerned about recoil, the CCI 22 Mag snake shot works great out of the little H&R single action revolvers. Works well and groups pretty good at about 4 to 6 feet.
I've actually never gotten to fire a revolver. Will have to rectify that. I was shocked how little recoil dad's shotgun had. Made me completely reevaluate the shotgun species.

So, just what name brand and model of semi automatic 12 g shotgun did dear old dad purchase? I'm in the market for a new semi auto and would be interested in the particulars of your dad's gun.

Thanks,
Joe
I'll get the particulars on it for you later today Joe. It was sweet to shoot for sure.
It's a Mossberg 930 Blackwater tactical shotgun.

Thanks ST. I can't wait to set up some milk jugs etc and shoot the shotgun again lol. May have to tho. Don't want to tempt dad into reinjuring his shoulder. May have to settle for taking out the .22 for awhile longer. I miss shooting with him. Daddy daughter bonding time at it's finest.

The dogs do too....yuck. But 5.5 acres, I'm sure there are plenty of slitheries out there. Just don't come into my house/garage. Same with spiders or BEgs for that matter. I have my territory they have there's. Just living by animal kingdom rules, you invade my territory you end up like Mr snake.
You are living in their territory !
TO me that just disrupts nature and hate when people do things like that .
The house is 30 years old. Pretty sure it was a human territory before any snakes here today were born. We humans a predators and PART of the cycle. If you take humans out of the cycle, then everything we do disrupts nature....you do drive a car right? You do take advantage of electric light and the internet? And you don't think those things impact nature? Give me a break.

Re: The only good snake...the only good shotgun

Here's a question....how many of ya'll defending the snakes have ever shot a deer or a dove? These are also God's creatures and pose almost no potential risk to you, your family, or your pets....

I'm not a snake expert. Frankly not getting close enough to them to analyze if they are poisonous or not. If they are in the fields, they can stay there. Had the frog not been hopping out of my garage, the snake could have very easily struck my ankle instead.

I have zero regrets here guys. Zero.

I'm not sure what kind it was, but not about to chance one of us or one of my dogs getting bit. It tried to kill a poor little frog and found out it wasn't the biggest predator around, simple as that.

The only good snake...the only good shotgun

So there was a snake in our garage tonight that tried to kill a poor little frog as we were leaving. My dad being the awesome manly tough guy that he is freed the poor little frog and got the snake around the side of the garage against the house.

(Three cheers for dad) :clapping: :clapping: :clapping:

In comes the shotgun...

My dad had rotator cuff surgery less than a year ago so the shotgun was out of the question for him. Historically I don't like sacrificing my shoulder being bruised for 3 days, but when it comes to an evil vicious frog murderous snake....you better believe I'm shooting it.

One shot, one dead snake! :fire

Long story short I LOVE my dad's new semi automatic 12g shotgun. Nothing like the old pump action that made me swear off shotguns entirely. Nope, now I'm officially a shotgun fan....and dad is probably going to be one shotgun short in his collection....he just doesn't know it yet.
