I'd thought about this too. My insurance card solely exits on my phone, I don't even have a paper copy. The one time I've been pulled over recently, I handed the officer my LTC & DL. He didn't ask for the insurance (they can pull that information on their system anyway) so I had no need to hand over my phone.

I think it's more for that panic moment when you realize you left your wallet at home and you have a weapon and NO ID.
