Update - Prosecutors say a felon and another man caught with stolen guns didn't even bother to take the store tags off.
William Steen and Tony Watkins appeared in court, accused of being in possession of at least 13 guns stolen from Carter's Country.
Watkins is a convicted felon and police had him and Steen under surveillance after the robbery. They saw both men putting rifles into a truck and followed him.
They pulled him over and found three long rifles and ten handguns in the truck. Several of the weapons still had tags from Carter's Country.
Steen told police he bought the guns even though he knew they were stolen. He was released on bond.

Re: Carter Country-Pasadena
The sign applies to everyone coming into the store and was not put up for classes. The Wall wrote:I haven't read all of the post so if this has been mentioned already. After reading the OP first thing that came to mind since the do classes there perhaps that's what the sign asking for unloaded guns, and slides locked back was for people coming in for the classes. I know the gun shop where I took my class we weren't allowed to bring guns into the classroom. We left them at the front counter with shop employee who also assisted the instructor during the shooting part of the class.
This practice is nothing new and shouldn't be a surprise to anyone who has visited gun stores.
I have seen similar signs in many other gun stores for the past 40+ years.

Re: Carter Country-Pasadena
Police have made arrests in Carter Country robbery.
HOUSTON - The Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco and Firearms confirmed to Channel 2 that authorities have made multiple arrests in the smash-and grab robbery at a gun store in southwest Houston.
Federal charges are expected to be filed as the investigation continues.
Authorities released surveillance video showing around 10 people they say stole dozens of weapons around 4:30 a.m. Tuesday at Carter's Country Guns and Ammo in the 11000 block of South Wilcrest Drive.
According to police, several people tied chains to a black Ford F-250, and pulled the metal covered glass doors off its hinges.
Investigators said they went inside the building, ransacked the store and caused extensive damage to the business. The suspects used a hammer to break the glass cases that stored the handguns and took several rifles of the rack.

Again, thanks for the update puma guy.puma guy wrote:I visited Carter's Country again today to ask about their sign. It doesn't apply to CC. The fellow I spoke to said they have never worried about CC. They have always asked patrons have weapons in a safe state when entering the store via signage. I gathered by my conversation with him that there is concern regarding OC weapons based on some experiences. I will not relay his comments. I don't know if all Carter's locations have this same sign and I forgot to ask him. This is my last post in this thread.

(S. Wilcrest) got their front doors pulled off & were robbed early this morning & you guessed it, they stole a bunch of guns. How stupid can they get,,, ,, never mind,,, they can get pretty darn stupid. They will catch them!
I hope they do & recover ALL weapons.
I imagine they could grab quite a few guns in just a few minutes.
They said the same store had been burglarized two months ago and no one had been caught.

I'm a firm believer that they all will get caught by ratting each other out eventually.
BTW I don't think that their sign had anything to do with the theft.

Re: Carter Country-Pasadena
Prior to open carry they had this same policy.flintknapper wrote:puma guy wrote:I finally had a chance to go to Carter's Country Pasadena location. As I recall there used to be a sign on the door requesting firearm be brought in open bolts, cylinders and slides opened. I didn't see that sign today but inside the store on a easel I found this the sign pictured below. They have no 30.06 or 30.07, but I assume they will ask to remove and safe up your OC weapon before entering the turnstile.
If I am reading that correctly, if you OC into the store you must have your weapon unloaded and the action open. But if you were to CC that would not be required?
The logic behind that escapes me. Someone help me out?
With either method of carry your weapon is securely holstered and is not being 'handled'.
The ONLY thing different relates to the infamous 'dress code' (a piece of cloth is not covering my pistol).
Not wearing a cover garment doesn't make me any more inclined to handle or un-holster my weapon, if that is their concern?
Some people would come in the store with a gun to get it examined, buy a holster, get a scope mounted, etc.
Prior to open carry, they obviously had to handle the gun so they required that the gun "be made safe" buy opening the action, cylinder or bolt.
This is a continuation of that policy. They do not want open carry in the store so they request that you unload it.
It accomplishes their purpose without a 30.07 sign.

Re: Carter Country-Pasadena
Yes, I think that is what is was for. Or to try out a holster, or get it repaired etc.Jusme wrote:WildBill wrote:I may be wrong, but I thought they had that sign up for many years.
Not about open carry, but about bringing guns into the store.
maybe that was meant for someone looking to sell or trade their own guns, that would make more sense. you wouldn't want to walk up and unload one at the counter, so maybe the manger was confused, either that or he was hoping to spread confusion.
