When will that be? She's 24.
Many people do not graduate by age 24. She could also be a graduate student. If not on her current job, perhaps the next will be subject to an internet search.

I hate to burst anybody's bubble, but most employment decisions are not based on hiring "the best and most qualified applicant."

As CHLLady, stated her application will probably go straight to the bin.

If she did get the job, she might have already have a nickname before her first day at work. ;-)

Thanks for the post. I am glad that wasn't seriously injured and he got all A's and one B on his finals. Many years prior, to getting my degree, I was taught to look both ways before crossing a street. :thumbs2:
In my experience, engineers (especially engineering students and ESPECIALLY t-sippin' engineering students :thumbs2: ) don't have a lot of street smarts ;-)

At what age is one expected to grow up and be responsible for one's actions? Somewhere in our Bible, it is suggested that 12 is the '....age of accountability'.... I'm okay with that.

Teaching responsibility and consideration are just a couple of the duties of parents. I wonder who bailed her out and/or otherwise came to her rescue?
Me not know. ;-)

:iagree: A 24 year old woman acting like a 12 year old spoiled girl leads me to think that she has led a very sheltered, me-first life.

Would your opinion or comments change if the jogger were a male? It's okay to answer "Yes".

SewTexas wrote:she needs to work on her "emotional intelligence" ???? what the heck is that????

let me put it this way....is your wife one of the women who carry? Cali and I carry, TAM's wife carries, if one of us is grabbed from behind, that cop is going to be facing a gun, all because he didn't announce himself in such a way as to be noticed by someone who couldn't hear him, weather that person has headphones (as is more, and more common now, so train on it) or that person is deaf or has some hearing loss. I thought police officers were trained in de-escalation? or at least not escalation. college kids are a ball full of hormones, it's all about escalation, he knew that when he set up shop there, he knew going in what his "target audience" would be, so to speak. he should have been more prepared.
Whether or not my wife carries is not relavent. This woman did not turn around and try to break away or defend herself or pull a gun. She sat down on the sidewalk and cried. Then, after she knew it was the police who grabbed her, she refused to identify herself and starting yelling profanities. Then she starting yelling and screaming as she was being taken to the police car. That is what I meant by having to work on her emotional intelligence.

Emotional intelligence (EI) is the ability to identify, assess, and control the emotions of oneself, of others, and of groups.

Hard to miss Walton and Johnson in the morning.

I can see the women being upset. This was probably her first contact with an LEO in this type of situation. I can see her being very upset, but she needs to work on her "emotional intelligence". Maybe this arrest will give her a little more perspective. That said, I hope that they drop all of the charges and just keep the citation for jaywalking. I don't think that she is a menace to society. I can also hope that this incident won't taint her long term feels toward law enforcement.

It seems like the transit police everywhere are more aggressive. I worked at Renaissance tower in Dallas for awhile and jaywalking there was going to get you not only a ticket but a dose of real attitude. NJ and NY had the Port Authority police and many of those that I saw were definitely over the top.

There is a case to be made about being so into your tunes with earbuds that you don't understand what is happening around you. But it sure looks like this was a "make a public example" situation. Granted her response didn't help her after the heavy handed tactics had begun.

She was jaywalking. Bad on her. Ending up in the back of a cruiser for that offense seems like overkill no matter how I try to look at it.
[Fortunately] I haven't had the pleasure of meeting up with transit police.

I think that in these types of cases the officers have to demonstrate their ability to control the situation and make sure that people are compliant to their commands.

Even it might be overkill, they can't just let the woman walk away.

I am not arguing about tactics, public support or "better things to do".

I could be wrong, but I don't think that any of the officers volunteered for Jay-Walk duty. ;-)

The officers did try to give her a ticket and move on, but she would not let them do their job.

Both the jogger and the police could have done better.

Re: Cops arrest jogging woman....

This story hit the bigtime. It's now in the NY Daily News and the UK Daily Mail! It is interesting to see how they are already twisting the story.

Tears streamed down Amanda Jo Stephen’s face after a cop reportedly grabbed her arm and pushed her to the ground, allegedly for jaywalking.
The screaming Austin jogger was hauled into a cop car by four police officers.
Why did the cops cross the road? To cuff the jogging jaywalker.
Texas police stuffed a 24-year-old jogger into a cop car on Thursday after the shocked jaywalker failed to properly identify herself.
