Enhancement for one group equals restriction for the other group.

Re: Enhanced CHL
Dreading dropping off children at school. That is a very sad state of affairs.LSUTiger wrote:We shouldn't need CHL's or any special privledges. I believe in constitutional carry, CC or OC for all guns, handgun or long gun. Private property rights should be respected but public property should be fair game. Schools included. School shootings and other shootings have proven that "Gun free zones" aren't safe.
I have two small children in school and I dread having to drop them off everyday because I know there is not a darn thing I can do to protect them and there is no one else to offer reasonable protection for them. Unless there are a couple of armed officers patrolling the school, the old saying "when seconds count the police or only minutes away" applies.
At the moment, I wish there was a remedy for this, if the schools won't pay for officers to provide security then they should allow volunteers who to provide this service. I would gladly sign up for some sort of extra training program so I could do it for free at my kids school.
Now don't get me wrong, I am happy to have CHL because its all we have at the moment.

I am afraid so.jbarn wrote:WildBill wrote:Sometimes I think that some people still have some romantic notion that being a ranger, sheriff or deputy means that all you have to do is be able to ride a horse and be good with a gun.mojo84 wrote:Darn. I would like for a chl to be able to carry the same place as leos. Not really interested in additional authority associated with it though. Too much potential liability.
You mean.......

Re: Enhanced CHL
If an LEO requires assistance he/she can request the assistance of citizens. And they don't need no stinking badges.rp_photo wrote:I'm assuming that reserve officers are called to respond to a crisis such as a natural disaster, riot, etc., which makes them only helpful after the fact.
An ECHL would able to immediately respond on their own as would a regular CHL, only with superior training and ability carry in more places.

Re: Enhanced CHL
Just to make sure that I am understood, maybe I should have expanded my statement about reserve officers. They have the same "privileges" as LEOs, since they are LEOs. What I meant is that the various departments, using reserve officers, can supplement the number of officers available for law enforcement activities without incurring the cost of hiring full-time LEOs.gigag04 wrote:Here, we agree.WildBill wrote:This is why some police departments have reserve officers.rp_photo wrote:I was thinking to myself today about the concept of Enhanced CHL that would afford privileges somewhere between Peace Officer and regular CHL. Extended privledges could include things such as being able to carry in off-limits places like bars and schools, being exempt from 30.06, being able to open carry, 50-state reciprocity, and being more prepared to act offensively, i.e. come to the aid of others.IMO, "ECHL" would not fill a valuable role in society.rp_photo wrote:It would seem to me that ECHL's could fill a valuable role in society. Has any though ever been given to this?

Re: Enhanced CHL
As a property owner I can decide whether you come on my property based on your clothes. So I should be able to do the same for what you wear under your clothes.A-R wrote:30.06 is a touchy issue. I personally don't think a business open to the public should be allowed to dictate what I wear under my clothing. But some can't seem to separate this issue from the broader property rights issue.
