Magazines and the industries that they cover have a symbiotic relationship (to put it diplomatically). Magazines need advertising dollars, and vendors need an advertising vehicle for the products that they sell.

This is true of just about everything—guns, cars, motorcycle, clothing, furniture, etc.

I would think the vendors and magazine editors correspond regularly, telling each other what they are planning to publish or what they are planning to announce in the near future. However, as I said, I never worked at that level.

What I was getting at was the "all-too-common" practice of announcing a new product for sale or debuting it at a trade show and then not being able to deliver the product to the consumer.

This is correct.

They plan a year in advance. Let's say they're going to have an article about compact polymer pistols. They will solicit some of their known writers to write the articles, and they will solicit manufacturers to buy advertising in the same issue. Along the way someone also has to wheedle weapons for evaluation from the manufacturers. I don't know how that aspect works.

I suppose it's very difficult to wheedle a weapon when the weapon is still only a model on the designer's computer. :biggrinjester:

I didn't know it would be months as in plural, I thought computers would make it faster ... but I'll take your word, and experience, over my guesses. Thanks.
Computers make the writing and editing of the articles easier and faster, but planning the contents of a monthly magazine is a longer term effort. I suspect that the advertisements play a larger role than the actual articles. I haven't made a formal study, but it seems to me that more than 75% of a gun magazine consists of ads.

Arraignment is supposed to occur within a certain short period after indictment. Usually it's pretty routine. The defendant pleads not guilty. Maybe nobody remembered to go to the hearing or look it up later.

In many cases the defense attorney starts broadcasting a defense soon after the indictment, but not necessarily.

- Jim
In California [not sure about AZ], arraignment is within 72 hours after arrest. California doesn't require grand jury indictment. It's just a formality where the judge tells you the charges and a plea is entered. It usually takes all of ten minutes. For felony charges they usually set a date for a preliminary hearing.

After the arraignment they usually waive the right to a "speedy trial". Then there are delays and postponements and continuances until the cows come home.
