Then maybe the AP should pay a royalty to Zimmerman.philip964 wrote:The photo is now much more valuable from Zimmerman's use.

Re: 17y/o Killed By Neighborhood Watch/CHL
It appears to me from a quick glance of the posted images that the original photo was scanned and altered using software, so it is not "original". However, Zimmerman's art might be covered under fair use. I believe that it is satirical and critical of the original photo. Also, I do not think that AP will lose any revenue due to Zimmerman copying the photograph. IANAL
Fair use is a statutory exemption to the rights granted by copyright law. It is a defense to activity that would otherwise be considered infringement. The doctrine permits the use of copyrighted works for many purposes, including scholarship, journalism, criticism, commentary, or parody (if the parody specifically criticizes or comments on the copyrighted work itself and not just on society in general). The inquiry of whether a particular use is "fair" is determined largely by the particular facts of each case. Judges, therefore, are instructed to consider the following non-exhaustive set of factors in determining whether "fair use" applies:
◦The purpose and character of the use, including whether such use is of a commercial nature or is for nonprofit educational purposes;
◦ The amount and substantiality of the portion used in relation to the copyrighted work as a whole; and
◦The effect of the use upon the potential market for or value of the copyrighted work.
•The first sale doctrine is another limitation on the exclusive rights granted by copyright. The doctrine allows lawful owners of copies of a work to share, resell, give away, or otherwise distribute them.

No Problem!philip964 wrote:http://www.cnn.com/2013/11/18/justice/f ... an-arrest/
The thread that just keeps on giving.
Zimmerman arrested for pointing a shotgun at his girl friend. Apparently barricaded himself in his house with furniture to block the door. Arrested without further incident.
I believe this is a felony.
Well I guess he was really a bad guy afterall. If convicted I assume he will loose his CHL.
The only question will be, can we get to 300 posts before then.

It that what is meant by trying to "knock some sense" into some one?RottenApple wrote:I'd love to "arm" Morgan with a Blue Gun, sucker punch him in the face, start slamming his head into a sidewalk, and see how long it take him to go for his gun. Heck, do that to every moron who thinks this was a bad outcome and eventually they might see the truth.Sport Coach wrote:Incredible the difference between "reporting" on the different channels - CNN and Fox. My jaw dropped when Morgan claimed the 17-year-old boy was only armed with a bag of Skittles to which Zimmerman replied Martin was armed with a concrete sidewalk and bone-breaking fists.
ETA: I wouldn't actually do it, mind you, but its probably the only way to get through to them.

The Zimmerman trial jury paused their deliberations at around 6:00PM EST to present Judge Nelson with a question:
“May we please have clarification on instructions regarding manslaughter?”
Nelson announced the question to the parties in open court, and has now recessed court 30 minutes to address the issue with the jury.
The verdict form is here. Final Jury Instructions here.
The implications of this question can only be addressed speculatively. It does, however, strongly suggest that murder 2 has been discarded from the jury’s consideration. All six jurors may be seriously considering manslaughter, or it may be a situation in which 5 jurors believe manslaughter does not apply (presumably because the State has failed to disprove self-defense beyond a reasonable doubt) but find they are having trouble convincing the 6th jury of the same.

Re: 17y/o Killed By Neighborhood Watch/CHL
I was listening to a radio show yesterday were people called in to talk about the case. I think a lot of the trouble with these opinions is that people don't know the law, or they don't care about the law and just think that someone should have to "pay".mojo84 wrote:Dragonfighter wrote:You know I find it interesting, the number of blacks at my work who think GZ should be acquitted vs. the number of non-blacks who thinks he's guilty.
We all know that not all blacks think the same way. Nor do all whites, hispanics etc. It's the small but loud minority in each group that want to incite people's emotions by playing up racism in order to achieve their social/societal goals.
This is why it is extremely important that we see everyone as individuals rather than as being part of a racial, ethnic our religious group that all think and act alike.

Re: 17y/o Killed By Neighborhood Watch/CHL
I almost appears that the prosecution wants to lose the case. That way they can say "we tried to convict him" but the jury didn't agree.bulinm wrote:To the untrained eye, it appears that the defense is getting all it needs from the prosecution witnesses.
Sometimes, I guess, there's prosecutorial incompetence, and sometimes, well, you just don't have a case.
I find it strange that they have so many witnesses, but none of them were actually at the scene. Also, the police testimony appears to help Zimmerman.

Re: 17y/o Killed By Neighborhood Watch/CHL
November 20, 2012 An Interesting development:
A Sanford police officer who is scheduled to be deposed in preparation for the George Zimmerman murder trial has hired attorney Jose Baez to represent him.
I don't recall a police officer needing his own attorney for a disposition.
Reading the article further down it states that Chris Serino is a "former investigator."
