Re: Two Houston Police Officers SHOT
Interesting turn of events.
Chief Bill Taylor and Major Dianna Marshall have turned in their resignations. Taylor and Marshall are the one's who fired university police officer David Sedmak for leaving the university campus to assist two Houston police officers involved in a shootout at the Greyhound bus station.
Since his firing there has been a massive outcry from students and alumni denouncing the action against the officer.

I heard on the radio this afternoon that some Rice University alumni were protesting the firing by threatening to withhold contributions to the school.
I also heard the 911 tape. IMO, it would be hard not to respond to such a call.

Re: Two Houston Police Officers SHOT
I can see both sides to the story. The HPD rank and file seem to support Officer Sedmak. The firing of the officer may seem harsh, but I am sure that there is some background information that we will never know.

Re: Two Houston Police Officers SHOT
The latest news is that the Rice University officer, David Sedmak, who responded to the "officer down" call was fired for "dereliction of duty."

Re: Two Houston Police Officers SHOT
The latest report is that the person involved in the shoot out with HPD officers was a resident of Georgia and used a gun that was stolen from a Houston resident. The man's identity has not been released.

I have never been to the downtown Houston Bus Station, but in my experience most bus stations are in are in areas of cities that I would not visit under normal circumstances.sugar land dave wrote:The downtown Houston Bus Station is not a place that I have ever considered safe. Just my opinion.

Re: Two Houston Police Officers SHOT
Good news. Both officers were released from the hospital Saturday night. HPD Chief Charles McClelland said they are "in good shape" and looking forward to getting back to work.
Ofc. Fernando Meza was working off-duty security at the bus station. He tried to approach the man, and an argument ensued. Meza pulled out his TASER and fired and the suspect a handgun and began exchanging fire with Meza. Meza was hit in the hand.
The suspect was suffered a bullet wound to the side and began shooting at Ofc. Timothy Moore, who responding to the original shooting call. Moore was struck once in the leg.
The standoff lasted about two hours. They found the suspect dead at about 7pm with what they believe to be a self-inflicted gunshot wound to the head.
