I guess the woman he murdered was not the driver? He may not be the brightest bulb on the tree, but he couldn't be that dumb, could he?
This story says that she was in the drivers seat, and the man was directly behind her. It did not say whether the car was in motion.

Relationship of the two involved.
Will be interested as it develops and details get released.
Police said the woman was in the car with a man near the intersection of Collingsworth and Kashmere around 2:45 a.m. when the incident occurred.
Obviously the guy is not a member of this forum. How many people need to do a gun check while driving around at 2:45AM?

Another Gun Goes Off in Houston

A woman was killed Saturday when a gun went off inside a vehicle killing a woman.
Authorities said the man, who was sitting in the back seat, claims he was checking whether his gun was loaded when it went off killing the woman. The man was arrested.
