I don't know the man who died in this accident, but the Darwin comment is not warranted. Yes, he tried to do something beyond his skill level, but he was taking a class with a professional instructor and was doing his best to learn what was being taught. After watching the video that Flb_78 posted, I don't think that I would try that particular maneuver. Condolences to those surviving him.

If I was to do such draw, I would do it only with unload pistol. Too much risk, to flip up pistol with single and then disable safety. Even with not safety at question, I would put the pistol between my knees pointing downward and re-grab the pistol .

That's one reason to carry a handgun without a safety [or a 1911 or other gun with an ambidextrous safety].

Weak-handed shooting is NOT required for the CHL certification. I consider weak-hand shooting more of an advanced technique that needs to be taught in a follow-up advanced defense class, not during the CHL qualification.

Stick to the basics.
