I have never read about this either, but it wouldn't surprise me if it's departmental policy. A couple of years ago I had a small injury at work so they took me to the medical clinic to be treated. I was suprised that after my treatment, I had to take an alcohol and drug test. I think this is so they can lessen their liability for worker's comp, insurance or lawsuit if the person is "impaired".
