Ran another box of 50rds of Speer gold dot ammo through my 229R, no issues at all.
Side note,
I was working a wreck the other day and I noticed DPS officer was carrying a 229R, I didn't realize that's what they carried. As we stood there waiting for the tow truck we talked guns.
He was pleased with his, never had any issues with new extractor and never came across a collague who had issues either.
Hope NJSP and Sig get it straightened out.

Re: Sig...did I limp wrist it?
What gets me is that the problems they were experiencing happened with the newer 229's as well as with older 229's they requested subsequently.
I know some newer 229's had issues with the extractor, but this was nothing that Glock didn't experience with their new gen4's initially with respect to their guide rods etc.
My 229 has a 2015 date code and again, 652 rounds roughly in and I've had two failure to fire instances, all from the same 50 rd box of elite ammunition.
Sometimes gun makers get it wrong and produce a bad batch. Sometimes ammo manufacturers make a bad batch of ammo that will cause issues in any pistol.
As I said, 229 is used by so many agencies, and there are tens of thousands of 229 users out there. I have two 229's and both have been as reliable as my beloved Glocks and HK's.
When gen4's Glocks came out, forums and articles were full of Glock bashers saying the new ones are junk...
My early gen4 Glock 19 has had 5 FTE's out of somewhere in the ballpark of 3000 rds (lost exact count after two 1000 rd cases).
In all but one instance ammo that was in at the time of FTE was wwb 115gr, so, is my Glock not reliable because of 5 out of 3000 stat (99.83%)?
Or my p229 with 2 failure to fires out of 652 rds (99.69%)?
Bring any gun to the shooting table and you will have a malfunction eventually, whether the cause is ammo, gun or you.
Important part for me personally is how to deal with malfunction, and I will not carry a pistol that will not run 1 out of 100, 3 out of 200...rds w/o malfunctioning... my 99% rule...

Re: Sig...did I limp wrist it?
That is interesting. So NJSP is having failures with the new Sig models (large extractor), then Sig sends them new guns (with legacy extractors) and they continue to have failures?remington79 wrote:NJSP are having an issue too but it looks like it might be their cheap range ammo. https://www.thetruthaboutguns.com/2017/ ... ing-p229s/

Every gun company has few bad apples here and there, but Sig is well known for reliability. To have two different models of their p229, which is popular in LE community, have so many failures just seems strange to me.
Today marked roughly 652 rds that I've fired through mine, and aside from two instances where I had failure to fire using elite performance ammunition I have not had any issues whatsoever.
It is boringly reliable. I even tried to limp wrist it today using my non dominant hand and it just kept going.
Couldn't be their ammo?

Re: Sig...did I limp wrist it?
Yea, I will conclude that I indeed did not limp wrist my Sig.
I ran 52 additional rounds today of Speer gold dot jhp through it, wanted to run more but ran out of time...
All fired flawlessly. I randomly picked up 5 casings and the strikes look good, pretty strong.
I managed to dig two bullets out of the railroad tie backstop and of course, they are pretty much flattened.
Had nice time and such...

Re: Sig...did I limp wrist it?
I just ordered some Speer gold dot jhp from Ammunition Depot. I plan on running another 150 rds of this stuff over the weekend to see if I can get any failure to fire reproduced. I'll report back on that.
Side note to all 357 Sig shooters, check out the prices on gold dots from ammunition depot
$22.97 for box of 50! That's a pretty darn good deal for premium ammo!

Another side note
, I suppose this topic question has been addressed....I did not limp wrist the Sig. I did nothing wrong...I am ALWAYS right, except when I think that I'm wrong. ![Jester :biggrinjester:](./images/smilies/biggrinjester.gif)

Re: Sig...did I limp wrist it?
I have to correct myself on saying that the barrel "appears loose". I just did a side by side comparison with an legacy upper, and the wiggle is the same. They literally have the same feel and look in the way that the barrel moves and is seated.

Re: Sig...did I limp wrist it?
Yes, I noticed that some are off center and noted the presence of that tiny "divot". I am fairly new to Sig, so I did not think that is something too unusual. Hmm.
I wonder if this being a factory .40 Sig with a .357 barrel has anything to do with that? I noticed that the barrel in e2 upper appears a little loose, but it seems to be that way by design? Maybe the slight wiggle of the barrel during the cycling produces an off center strike?
I don't know.

Re: Sig...did I limp wrist it?
That is good. My first hunch was to blame myself of course.
I will run couple hundred more rds of wwb and see how it does. But no more elite performance for me. .357 Sig is pricey to experiment with.
For some odd reason, I tend to shoot better with Sig in this particular caliber then with my Glocks.
I like it. A lot.

Re: Sig...did I limp wrist it?
Ok, I snapped a picture of few .357 Sig wwb fmj and federal jhp casings. These I collected from the pool of 50 rds of wwb and 50 rds of federal, both ran flawlessly, and the weapon if anything was dirtier as I shot these last.
If anyone can observe something weird on those strikes in the pic, let me know. To me they look normal.
Again, unfortunately I did not collect elite performance casings but out of almost 200rds, only two were duds.
It is just something I've never experienced before. I pulled the trigger and hammer dropped and nothing happened. On one I cocked the hammer back and squeezed the trigger and that round then fired as normal.
On the other dud, when the hammer fall and nothing happened, obviously slide didn't move, I just squeezed the trigger and it fired as it should.
This happened on two different mags (had enough sense to at least test that),
so I'm pretty sure it is not mag related.
The last two mags of federal jhp, I rapid fired two mags back to back, no issues.
I will just chunk it as bad ammo, as others have pointed out, and I'll stay with wwb for range and federal for sd.
That's two duds out of I believe 298 rds I fired today. I think it is hip worthy.
Side note, incredibly accurate and I had no other issues at all. Just those two weird ones...

Re: Sig...did I limp wrist it?
All the casings I've inspected appear consistent and have good strikes. I'll try to post pics later.rotor wrote:You need to look at the primer strike to see if it is a good strike. I am betting that it is the ammo. All is academic until you check the quality of the primer strike. I don't see how limp wristing could cause this as the gun isn't going to fire unless in battery.
In my idiocy I failed to take pics of the elite performance casings

I messed up typing...not ftf but failure to fire (edited in the op).
It fed everything like a champ.

Ok. I am not the Sig expert, what is the most efficient method for checking? Visual, pencil eraser end inside of barrelmaverick2076 wrote:Limp wristing wouldn't have caused a FTF that would have been solved by a second strike. Most likely hard primers on cheap ammo. You might check your firing pin for wear.

Btw, the casings that I picked up to inspect show normal hits, nothing weak or off that I can see.
This was my first time running elite performance .357 Sig ammo.

Sig...did I limp wrist it?
On my P229 .357 Sig with the e squared frame, today I had two rounds out of almost 300 where I had failure to fire. Hammer went down and click, nothing. Pulled trigger again, boom. First one was after maybe 40 rds, 2nd one was another 50 rds later.
Then the last 100 rds (50 WWB and 50 federal jhp) it ran flawlessly (or maybe I ran better
?).
Ones where I had failure to fire were elite ammunition.
I've never had this happen before, and this p229 is your stock e2 .357 Sig.
I failed to look at the two bullet casings that didn't fire on the first hit
, mainly because they went off after 2nd trigger pull.
I'm thinking I limp wristed it. What says you?
Upside, it was a tack driver day at 25 yards.![Mr. Green ](./images/smilies/icon_mrgreen.gif)
