Thanks for all the replies!
I applied for my renewal on 11/21/19. I checked online 12/2/19 and everything was green except for background check. I checked again yesterday 12/4/2019 and my finger print section turned yellow along with the background check section.
I just logged in today 12/5/2019 and everything is green with an updated status of “Print Pending.”
Much faster process than the original application!

Re: "Waiting Room"
Hello everyone!
I haven’t been around since I obtained my CHL back in December 2015. It’s good to see that not much has changed. I had a question for anyone that knows (or has recently renewed.)
What’s the current timeline look like and/or what’s the process for a renewal? I submitted on 11/21. On 11/23, the site changed to only show “Apply to be an instructor” and hasn’t changed since.
My LTC expires on 5 January, 2020. Do I stand a chance of having plastic in hand by then with the holidays? I used to work for the DPS in a different department and the holidays are a bit of a “time off” season for state employees.
Thanks in advance.

My final update!TheRustyShackleford wrote:I just got off the phone with the DPS, I was approved 12/17 and I'm currently in the print phase!TheRustyShackleford wrote:I'm a new member...
I should have applied for my CHL a LONG time ago, just kinda never got around to it, anyways, my current timetable is as follows:
Completed Online Application: 11/05/15
Completed CHL Class: 11/07/15
Completed Fingerprinting: 11/13/15
Submitted All Paperwork to the DPS Online: 11/13/15
DPS Documents Received E-Mail: 11/16/15
Currently nothing has changed for me on the DPS website, it still asks if I want to apply as an instructor. I'm a former DPS employee (less than one year removed from service) I was hopeful that my background would still be on file.
I'm hopeful to have my plastic in hand by December 16th, but I doubt that's possible, is it?

If you get caught carrying without your CHL, you'll go to jail.TexasLonghornRN wrote:I don't think it's against the law, approved is approved, plastic or not, it's still in the system as approved when they look it up. Just saying. If you forget your license at home and you are carrying one quick call in and it's attached to your driving record legal is legal approved is approved.
Unless you're obviously in your home, car, ect..

Re: "Waiting Room"
Today is my 30th day (from the confirmation e-mail. It's the 39th day since I did my actual application.)
I called the DPS and after a long wait I finally talked to a lady that said it's processing. I asked when I could expect it to be finished processing (like I didn't already know what she'd say) she said it would be sometime during the next 30 days. I asked should I check back next week and she encouraged me. She said it could really be any day, but I'm not holding my breath.

Re: "Waiting Room"
What do you do for the state? (if you don't mind my asking?) I worked in administration for the DPS in Houston. Getting paid monthly sucks.Breny414 wrote:Probably mid January, for me at least. My document date is November 24 (Thanksgiving Week), so I'm sure that week doesn't count. Might as well cross out the Christmas week, too. Since I work for the state of Texas, I know that many take the whole week off because we are granted Thursday and Friday this year. same goes for the week of New Years....![]()
I was hoping to get the LTC before January 1 so that I could do the Wally Walk while enjoying the show of the OC folks doing their walks.
I do check the website everyday at this point.

At 60 days we're looking at mid-January, mine was accepted and email sent on 11/16.Breny414 wrote:I've seen others on this thread say the same thing, "called and said they haven't started," only to say a couple of days later that their status had changed on the website, or that they got their plastic in the mail.TheRustyShackleford wrote:Same here, I called earlier this week and was told they had everything but hadn't started on it yet. Called today and the lady said they haven't even started on it.
Whatever.
In any event, they are going to do their due diligence and hopefully get it to us in a timely manner.
FYI, I submitted all documents on 11/24 - with confirmation email the same day.

Re: 16 Days Start to Finish
You're extremely lucky. Play the lottery.jlp wrote:I submitted my application on-line following the directions on the CHL web site. I attached scans of my FAST and CHL-100 forms.
Submission date: 11/18
Confirmation email from DPS stating application was received: 11/19
Arrival of CHL license: 12/4
From start to finish the time elapsed was 16 days.
It's interesting to note that a no time did a search of the on-line application status show anything. It remained blank.
So ... the trick for quick turn around is to use on-line system, not the Postal Service.

Sounds good, I see you're in League City, I'm near Galena Park. Hopefully they'll come around the same time!twjones wrote:We basically have the same timeline - I am hopeful I get mine around the middle of December. It seems lately there's been a good mix of people who get their card before the website updates and those whose website updates then they get their card a few days later.
I guess time will tell... keep me posted on your status.
